My brother sx-4000 typewriter will not load the paper or hold the paper in place

you have a gremlin in your typwritter?? No you may though have a few stuck buttons as I used to fix these word processors all the time and that was very common. If thats not the problem then its in the controller assy PCB and its expensive as every board on this unit is only replaceable as an assy. IF its available!! you could call the main support # in your owners manual and see what they tell ya or call here. 800-276-7746 Good Luck!

Lost manual need to know how to reset margin

make sure the ribbon and correction tape are installed correctly between the metal fingers on the far side of the printwheel and the cardholder. make sure there is no forien objects in the P/W or anything touching the petals on the P/W. turn mach. off for 10 secounds then back on or just hold down the code key and hit the Q (reset) if it still doesn't work, it will need repair or replacement.

Move carrier with the backspace or the spacebar.
Press and HOLD [ALT] while pressing the [4/$] key.
The left margin is now set.

Move carrier with the backspace or the spacebar.
Press and HOLD [ALT] while pressing the [5/%] key.
The right margin is now set.
