Sounds like the keyboard might not be detected. Double check the interconnect cable connector. That will then get you into bios to check time and date settings.

2007, 12 years old today, and RTC battery goes bad 5-7years
so how can that battery be good now? this old.

the simple thing is that are the both system compartible?so if they are not just compartible go to the local pc outlet in your area and get a compartible one better you go with the faulty screen so it could be easily verify.

You need to get a Windows 98, Windows ME, or Windows XP boot disk and boot your laptop. Ignore all messages and once at dos prompt, type the word "TIME" and set the time and hit enter. Then type the word "DATE" and then set the date. (You do not need to type the commands in capital letters)
