Various issues can cause drives to occasionally balk at writing optical discs. These run the gamut of physical, hardware, and software troubles.
Inappropriate or dirty media may be to blame. Make sure to match the type of recordable disc to the drive, and check each disc for fingerprints or other contaminants. If a disc is dirty, wipe it with a clean, soft cloth in a straight line from the center hole outward. Try a quality optical drive cleaning disc if you suspect dust contamination on the drive’s laser lens.
Some discs don’t perform well with certain drives, even within their rated speeds. Try recording at a slower speed and then with a different brand of disc.

Try an antenna directly on the tv to see if you get any stations. This will assure you that the tuner is working. Then hook up the new box and tune tv to channel 3 and turn box on. You should get some kind of display. If no luck you could hook audio/video cables from the audio/video output on the box to the video 1 input on the rear of your set. Then switch tv input to video 1 and turn box and tv on. This too, should give you something on the screen. Make sure the antenna is hooked up to the "ant. in" on the box. This should help, Russmann.

How are you connecting your laptop to the samsung TV? Is it DVI/HDMI or thru more-common S-video cable? I have successfully ported laptop screen to TV with S-Video. After you connect your S-video cable, right-click on blank desktop of laptop and bring up the Display Properties (usually the last entry on pop-up menu). Got to last tab, usually called Settings. You should see two monitors displayed on top part of this page. One of these (most likely #2) is your TV. Click on #2 monitor and check the box that reads "Extend my Windows desktop to this screen" (or words to that effect). Be sure you have the TV turned on and facing you because you may find yourself clicking on icons on the TV screen. You'll probably have to play with which is primary display because some video players have trouble playing to a secondary screen. You may also try the Fn+F8 (CRT/LCD) button on your laptop (those are the keys on my Dell). That may turn on the TV-out on the laptop. Lastly, remember that this will only get you video. You'll have to connect a 3.5 mm cable to you Line-Out port on the laptop and connect it somehow to your TV or SurroundSound speakers. There should be a audio-in port on those other devices for that. Or you can just play the sound thru your laptop speakers.
I'm not that familiar with the DVI-out but I suspect that it would work very similiarly. Good luck.
