I have a Sony Triniton 27 inch Model number KV27S42. It shut off while we were watching it, then it shut off. We got it to go back on and it shut off again. The red light stays on. It sounds like it wants to come on - makes a sound. Is this a simple solution? Could it be the Power Switch?

is there any ticking sound that's coming from the inside? if there is than could be the relay (posistor)
that's causing your tv to shut down. need to replace that.

hi, code 5 in sony tv is indicates of a weak screen,which is too expensive to replace.
some times it helps to lower the brightness of the screen.by adjusting the button on
the flay back, the part that connect with wire to the top of the screen.good luck!

This is a Vertical circuit failure. A number of parts can cause this. Vertical Output IC and or any of the peripheral components that work with it. Sorry, that is all I have for this.

The 2 blinks is an indication of overcurrent. That translates into a short somwhere inside the set. since you can get sound but no picture, that suggests that the problem is in the high voltage section. The most common failure there is the Horizontal Output Transistor. This is a 3 legged part attached to a heatsink close to the flyback transformer (part with large red wire coming out the top). That part should be marked C5438 or something similar. Post the marking here and I'll give you the complete part number.
