I called Nintendo. Our Wii was unable to be fixed by troubleshooting by phone. I'm having to send it back to them to repair or replace. They really were helpful and facilitated everything for me. My Wii was bought in 2006 and had no more warranty on it, however, they charged me $75 + $7.50 in shipping to send it back to them. If it can be repaired, they'll send it back to me fixed, however, if not, they'll send me a new one at no extra charge.

If Wii gives unreadable disc, first step you need to check is to try another disc or clean the exisitng disc. This will confirm that problem is with either Wii or Disc. This is a technical problem than only Nintendo could fix. Call them and they will either tell you how to fix it or they will ask you to send it in and they will fix it themselves.Also, you cannot upgrade the disk channel. It is hardly even considered a channel because all it does is start your game.
