If the key still works fine mechanically, then the issue is either the key post isn't making contact with the electrical switch underneath or the switch has failed. You'll have to pop the key out to find out for certain but both are very common reasons for key failure.

SOURCE: Microsoft Wireless Keyboard Slow and Intermittent

It can be a couple of things. 1. Try replacing the keyboard & mouse's batteries with fresh batteries. 2. Try moving the wireless receiver closer to the keyboard. 3. Make sure the receiver is not located too close to other electronics like a tv or dvd player. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer.

SOURCE: Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 1000 v 1.0 volume keys not working

On 32-bit machines: Use the windows search feature to find "hidserv.dll." Once located, copy the file and paste it into the %systemroot%\system32\ directory. Open the "Run" dialog box by keying the windows + R. Type "services.msc" and hit enter. Locate the HID Input Service. Right click and click "start." This should solve the issue!!

SOURCE: Dell Inspiron 1440 keyboard keys issue

you need to isolate this issue first.
where are you typing? inside IE or in MSWord?
If both has issues then try typing in the DOS Command Window. If same issue try to boot in safe mode and check if you will still be getting same issue in safe mode. If all yes try to check the bios and update it by downloading the latest bios version from the support site from dell.

I have a Microsoft keyboard I need to use F2 as a function for my game, F2 does not seem to be working cant get it to work. Is there a fix.

I recommend you look at the last function keys. F10 F11 or F12. They typically activate your 'number' pad for use. You'll need to depress the Fn key along with one of these other keys to activate or deactivate the combo

Wireless 1000 keyboard not supporting standard Windows F-keys

I had the same problem. I just could not get the "Alt-F4" function to work in a macro.

In the Macro Editor, in the lower center, you will see the "Z" actions. I realized I wanted the "Press and hold Z" function.

To get this, use "Inserting Special..." function to insert the Alt key stroke in the macro.

Then highlight the Alt in the Editor. Right Click and select "Split."

This will put the "Press and hold Z key" and "Release Z key" icons in the Editor.

What you want is the "Press and hold" function. Delete any other references the the Alt key.

Then enter the F4 key, and there you have it.

Hope this all makes sense to you.

Problem with keyboard or input of certain keys

hi.. is that a bi-lingual keyboard that you purchased? If so, what model? If that's a toshiba laptop w/ a bi-lingual keyboard, press the left (shift+ctrl) buttons for 10-15secs then release it. You should be able to bring back the normal function of your keyboard. If your having problems pressing the "n" key and it replaces it with a number on the screen when you type it, it's most likely that you enabled the "num lock" function of your keyboard, on Toshiba press FN+F11, on Dell FN+F11 also i think, it may differ on other models, sometimes FN+ Print Screen or Pause (above F11).

Hope this helps.

Can't enter BIOS setup with F2

Try using another application that has a use for the F2 key. I'm not totally convinced that your keyboard is good. It is possible for just one key to fail. Happens quite often.

My f10 light is permanently on...

Do you mean the little light below the keys? Just hit the "FN" (usually on the lower left of the keyboard between CTRL and ALT key (you may have tapped it accidentally) and that will turn them off.
