Check it to see if there is a spark at all. You could have a bad plug. The ignition switch could be bad. The module could be bad. I just had a honda 500 that quit running and the connector between the battery and module came loose. If you have a no spark condition find out if there is current to the ignition coil. If not then check all of the fuses to make sure that they are allright. Unplug all electrical and check to make sure that they are clean and tight. If all is ok, then you will need to test individual components.

SOURCE: No spark from coil pack

The most common reasons for them going out are not using dielectric grease properly when installing, and from washing your engine.

I believe this was a huge issue with Volkswagen vehicles

SOURCE: Cranks won't start/ distributor is turning/ have

have your already check the high tension wire and the distributor cap maybe the contacts have corrosion in it. Try cleaning it with a sand paper of the contact point on the distributor if you have.

SOURCE: Will not start, changed the crank and cam sensors,

COuld be a couple things. Timing is out, pcm is bad, knock sensor is bad, or a bad fuse for pcm or ignition. Keep in mind some vehciles list the pcm as an ecm. They are the same.

SOURCE: I have spark fuel but no fire without starting fluid

Backfiring and hard starting is almost always the result of bad engine timing. You don't say what model it is, but various causes are

- timing belt stretched and jumped a tooth (can't readily be seen)
- distributor drive gear replaced one tooth out (easy to do)
- spark plug wire misplaced on plugs

Take it easy with that starting fluid, you don't want blowback in your face

Testimonial: "I may try one more time after seeing the old piece that had timing marks on it that I replaced with a different one when I replaced the the timing cover that had a big gauge in it from the harmonic balancer before I had it. I also replaced the front main seal. "

Why no fire?

Hi Jennifer;
You didn't say what vehicle this is so just check what applies.
If you have spark, and you have fuel, the odds are that it should fire.
Check the spark from the coil output wire.
Check the distributor cap and rotor.
Check the spark plugs.
If they are all OK, you will need to check the fuel supply. Possibly a clogged fuel filter, water in the carb, things like that. Remove the air filter and spray a small amount of starting fluid (ether) into the carb. If it starts but then stops, you have a fuel supply problem.

My generator is not getting fire and i replaced the coal

Do you mean replaced the coil? What brand is the motor an model if you know? If an engine is not getting fire, a good place to start looking is the automatic shutoff. Those switches short the coil to ground an you will never start it. Second make sure the flywheel is not loose, is the keyway solid. If it moves has the key been sheared. If so engine will be out of time. Did you check coil with an ohm meter to see if it was shorted? After replacing coil are you getting spark? Are you sure it is? Place it on the block an look for a blueish spark, almost any spark is enough today. Did you check Spark plug, they go bad every year an I replace them no matter what. Dont assume its ok. These are the main reasons an engine fails to spark.

16 horse Kohler engine will trun over good, but will not fire

first check for spark then if you have spark try and spray carb cleaner or starting fluid into the carb if it fires on that you have a fuel problem keep in mind a bad safety switch can shut off the coil and also shut off the solenoid on the bottom of the carb

I have a snapper sr1030 but it is not firing i have replaced spark plug

It will take 3 things to make it run. Fuel, fire and compression. Try this. Squirt a little starting fluid in to the carburator and try to start it. If it fires you then need to check to see if there is gas getting into the carb. If it doesnt fire, you are not getting any spark due to a shorted coil, bad coil or shorted wire. If it has been outside for a while where it is damp, your magneto and coils may have enough rust on them to prevent them from firing.

1986 Gold Wing Interstate no spark. Had it runing once than no spark.

I wish I knew what kind of condition the bike was in. If you have no spark I would start with the coils for a loose or corroded connection both negative and possitive. Make sure the battery is good. You may have charged the battery and have 12 volts but if there is a bad cell in the battery and not enough amps your starter may turn but you will not get enough amps for the coils to fire the plugs. When my Intruder battery get a little low my plugs do not fire hot enough and fowls out. The battery is new so when I recharge or keep my trickel charge on I have no problems.
