Check it to see if there is a spark at all. You could have a bad plug. The ignition switch could be bad. The module could be bad. I just had a honda 500 that quit running and the connector between the battery and module came loose. If you have a no spark condition find out if there is current to the ignition coil. If not then check all of the fuses to make sure that they are allright. Unplug all electrical and check to make sure that they are clean and tight. If all is ok, then you will need to test individual components.
SOURCE: No spark from coil pack
The most common reasons for them going out are not using dielectric
grease properly when installing, and from washing your engine.
I believe this was a huge issue with Volkswagen vehicles
SOURCE: Cranks won't start/ distributor is turning/ have
have your already check the high tension wire and the distributor cap maybe the contacts have corrosion in it. Try cleaning it with a sand paper of the contact point on the distributor if you have.
SOURCE: 1999 lincoln continental starting problems it will
no timing has not changed i would try crank sensor ,and change number 4 plug and coil pack
SOURCE: Will not start, changed the crank and cam sensors,
COuld be a couple things. Timing is out, pcm is bad, knock sensor is bad, or a bad fuse for pcm or ignition. Keep in mind some vehciles list the pcm as an ecm. They are the same.
SOURCE: I have spark fuel but no fire without starting fluid
Backfiring and hard starting is almost always the result of bad engine timing. You don't say what model it is, but various causes are
- timing belt stretched and jumped a tooth (can't readily be seen)
- distributor drive gear replaced one tooth out (easy to do)
- spark plug wire misplaced on plugs
Take it easy with that starting fluid, you don't want blowback in your face
Testimonial: "I may try one more time after seeing the old piece that had timing marks on it that I replaced with a different one when I replaced the the timing cover that had a big gauge in it from the harmonic balancer before I had it. I also replaced the front main seal. "
