SOURCE: Sony TV - Loss of half the picture
sarge, it sounds like the vertical output IC went bad on you. If it was a bad connection or a bad capacitor, your picture would have been a straght line across the screen. They call the output section of the IC a push-pull type of amp, so the top half of the sweep IC went out. If you have had some soldering experience, and or experience with solid state repair, locating the bad IC and replacing it is no big deal. If you havent, stay safe and call in a pro to assist you in this repair, as there is alot of high voltage inside this puppy that is still present even if the set is unplugged. It should not cost an arm or a leg to repair this set. An honest repair on a set like this if you take it in should not exced 125 to 150 bucks. Good Luck PS Please dont forget to rate this thread.
SOURCE: half screen activated only
When only a half screen is produced, it is usually a upper or lower buffer board, if the top half is blank then it is the upper buffer, and of course if it's the bottom half then it's the bottom buffer board
SOURCE: Picture full of lines and flicker
Zdenko did an excellent job. Voltage regulators and
the capacitors on the main boards and in the power supplies are always
suspect.
Some times you can narrow down the culprit buy purchasing a can of
freeze spray. Let the TV warm up and try freezing suspect components to
see if this causes a reaction. Thermal problems can often be found in
this way.
Of course, if you're not able or willing to replace components on the
circuit boards, you can always replace the main board or power supply
board after determining which is causing the problem. These parts
should be available at your local Viewsonic service provider at a
reasonable price.

Well as you have only had it a few months, SEND IT BACK ( LG does not mean Lifes Good, in the trade we say LG=Lotta Garbage) There have been quite a few chip failures in this model, It should be recalled. Do a warranty call and get it replaced.
