Can not connect Xbox and computer to be online at the same time
I''ve been dumbfounded for 2 weeks now, called the techs at belkin and no one knows what the problem is! I have a zoom s1051 cable modem that goes to a belkin 8236-4 wireless router and then a wired connection to both a xbox360 and my computer. The problem is that I can only connect to the internet on one or the other. For instance: If everything is unhooked I plug in MODEM-ROUTER-XBOX-COMPUTER and xbox works, but if I plug the computer up first the XBOX will say it needs a static address. I've done the ipconfig thing and it still doesn't work. Called Belkin and stayed on the phone for 2 hours, went all the way to the top guy. I have no idea. PLEASE HELP

You need to connect your pc to the router with a standard patch lead and your xbox to the router with a crossover patch lead.
A crossover cable is the same as a normal patch lead but the green/white,green and orange/white ,orange are crossed over on one end.

Is this a new belkin router... I suspect that the belkin has a firewall. or the windows box is trying to take the XBOX over...I am sure we can get through this

it is the problem with router....the firewall built-in in the router will not allow certain gaming devices to go online...for this purpose you need to forward certain ports in the belkin router...for the list of port numbers to be forwarded, contact xbox vendor....once you got those port numbers, you can call 24x7 toll free belkin tech support(1800-2-235546)(1800-2-belkin) and ask them to assist u to forward ports... or
you can can connect a computer to one of the wired ports(1 to 4) and open internet explorer and type 192.168.2.1 in address bar and hit "enter key".
you ll see belkin router setup page...on the left side you ll find "virtual servers"...open that link(if it asks password, leave it blank and click submit) fill the IP address of your xbox in that form and type the port numbers and select appropriate (tcp/udp)...
also click on"firewall" in left and disable it....
also click on DMZ in left and type your xbox ip address there and enable it...
thats it....
you are done with that...
first check whether the gaming ports for xbox have been forwarded in the belkin router or not....if not do it first....if you dont know the port numbers call xbox support and get the list of port numbers to be forwarded....
then enable DMZ for the ip address of XBOX in belkin router...
then enable UPNP in belkin router....
atlast Disable firewall in belkin router....
your XBOX will go online and GET UPDATE.....
you can call belkin tech support of your country to assist you to forward ports for XBOX in belkin router...
if you reside in USA/Newzealand/Australia/Canada you can call this toll free 1800 2 BELKIN(235546)......
or you can call my personal mobile...

1) Get connected to belkin's wireless network or wired network 2) Once you get connected, it may not be able to go online on XBox Live 3) Go to any computer that is going online with the router 4) Type in 192.168.2.1 in the address bar of your Internet explorer 5) This will open up router interface(here we have to do some settings) 6) In the left hand side column, click on FIREWALL. 7) Leave the password blank in login page and disable the FIREWALL. Click on Apply Changes. 8) Under FIREWALL(in the left hand side column), click on DMZ 9) Make a "check" on enable and under Private IP: 192.168.2.25. Click on Apply Changes. 10) Now go to Xbox, under network settings, choose IP settings, and select manual configuration IP: 192.168.2.25 Subnet: 255.255.255.0 Router: 192.168.2.1 11) Now select manual configuration for DNS settings. Primary DNS: 4.2.2.2 Secondary DNS: 4.2.2.1 12) Restart both Belkin and Xbox 13) It should connect to XBox Live now...
I was having troubles with a belkin router as well. i called belkin tech support and they never helped as they would not accept that the router was the problem. i found i could connect the xbox directly to a modem and it would work fine but when i connected it through the router it would always disconnect from games or not allow me to join a game, only host them, with no one else joining. no matter if i forwarded the appropriate ports, put the specific ip address into the dmz or even turn upnp on (i've tried different combos of each, all on at same time, to even setting up manually) and nothing would change. I found that the router had an option to turn off NAT which belkin told me would render the router useless. I decided to go against them, turned it off and set the ip and dns to go with the modem. Now everything works fine as the router just acts as an expensive multi plug and wireless system. all the computers in the house can connect to the internet at the same time and access eachothers hard drives and i can access xbox live fine with no problems. there is also no lag when playing gtaIV multiplayer with 15 other players. i hate belkin tech support and i will not pay for another expensive multi plug connector from belkin... ever.
