If you are referencing the pin which locks the beater itself to the planetary's shaft, it can be removed with a punch.
However, if you are trying to remove the planetary itself, a 5/32" punch will do the trick.

SOURCE: kitchen aid mixer

the unit sounds like the drive unit is stripped. if the planitary unit is spinning that gear is ok but the one below that is stripped. which is the one that spins the beater. Usually the professional lines are covered under a 2 year warranty. where as the others are a 1 year. I would contact kitchenaid first and see if your product is covered for replacement. they are really good about replacing faulty units. if not the unit can be repaired. It is a simple process and you can buy the parts off kitchenaid. usually the parts come with instructions as to how to replace them but if not repost to me and ill get you the directions on how to replace it.

SOURCE: The dough hook is stuck in the beater shaft of kitchenaid mixer

It sounds like it got overloaded when you last mixed dough. It will only come off the way it went on. If it has been bent on, it may need a bit of gentle encouragement.

SOURCE: KitchenAid Mixer is not rotating.

Hi MANILYNTHEOB. I’m sorry to hear about your mixer not working. Unfortunately from the symptoms you describe, your mixer has experienced a transmission failure. You don’t mention how old your KA mixer is or how hard it’s been used, but for your particular model, KA has a plastic gear designed to fail, instead of the whole mixer ‘going up in smoke’. And what it sounds like is that this fail-safe gear finally ‘failed’ (stripped) so that the power from your electric motor is not getting to your planetary (“elliptical rotating part”) and the agitator shaft. What can you do?
The good news is that this can be fixed quite easily (OK, maybe a little effort) by yourself, if you are a DITY type person, feel adventurous, and your mixer is not under warranty you can troubleshoot it yourself. Be sure you have the Parts List manual on hand. If you're lacking one, you can download a PDF version from the KA website: http://www.kitchenaid.com/flash.cmd?/#/page/home.
Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals & Guides> then enter the visitor type “Consumer” and then enter the 6 character model number, in your case use KSM50P (Your K5SS mixer falls within this manual), and select the first file KSM50P.pdf (438.31 KB) listed under Parts List (4) and then check to verify this matches your mixer model.
Turn to pages 4 & 5, titled: Case, Gearing And Planetary Unit for the disassembly and reassembly of your mixer, along with all the parts. Locate Illus. No. 58, Worm Gear Bracket & Gear, including Illus. No. 12, Worm Gear (23 teeth). I suspect this is the weak link in your mixers transmission and causing the problems. After clearing all the grease away, you’lll probably find that is has been stripped.
You can order a replacement gear and install it yourself. While you’ve got your mixer this far apart you can check for any other unseemly wear and tear on the on the gears and other components. Besides a replacement gear, and grease you might consider replacing the gasket, too. You should use a food-grade grease that you can order online (although I’ve seen automotive bearing grease used too – your call). Do not try to reuse any original grease as this should be filled with debris from the stripped gear.
Here are five potential vendors in no particular order: RepairClinic.com; mendingshed.com; searspartsdirect.com; partstore.com; and Grainger.com. You should search for ‘food grade grease’. Prices can vary widely between vendors, so do your comparison shopping.
It can be messy but quite gratifying to diagnose and repair your mixer yourself.
Finally, here are some links to several excellent websites that detail the disassembling/reassembly of a KA Mixer. The mixers displayed in the links are different KA models, but the principles are the same.

Between these three websites and their excellent pictures and descriptions and your Parts List manual, you should now be able to completely disassemble and reassemble your mixer, should you decide to go that route.
If you feel this repair is beyond your capability, then I would seek out a local small appliance repair shop in your area. KA Customer Care can give you names of local KA authorized repair shops in your area, but you can also do an online search to supplement what KA may provide you. Call to explain your circumstances and find out their hourly rate and get an estimate of what they think it would cost to repair your mixer. Also, always obtain three or more estimates – do some comparison shopping. Good luck, I hope this helps. Howard, Burke, VA

I unable to remove the flat beater, It will not move up when I apply significant pressure. I have applied sewing machine oil on the shaft to no avail. How can I solve this problem?

Get a copy of the Repair Part List for your model at Kitchenaid.com
Constant pushing of the beater onto the Agitator shaft (40) can cause
it to be pushed in too far into the Planetary (33). With the beater in place,
use a rubber mallet to slightly tap the edges of the beater and push the
shaft out until you can see the retaining clip.
Now you have enough clearance on the shaft to push the beater upward
and twist it to remove it.

One of my blades is stuck and I can't engage the release

Make sure your Beater can slip in and out of the Beater Shaft
easily. Do not force the beater onto the Shaft if the shaft is bent.
If it cannot be removed easily by hand, use a soft rubber mallet
(not a steel hammer) to slightly tap the beater so it can be moved
up and down the shaft or from side to side. Then you can easily
turn the beater left and remove it from the shaft.

From Kitchenaid Manual:
To Attach Flat Beater, Wire Whip, or Dough Hook
1. Turn speed control to OFF.
2. Unplug stand mixer or disconnect power.
3. Tilt motor head back.
4. Slip beater onto beater shaft and press upward
as far as possible.
5. Turn beater to right, hooking beater over pin on shaft.
6. Plug into a grounded 3 prong outlet.

I have a Kitchenaid 550 watt 6 qt. stand mixer model #KB26GIXER. I tried to use it this morning and couldn't get the beater blade to lock in place. Isn't there supposed to be a spring and washer...

There is only one pin on the beater shaft to hold the beater in place.
There is no spring or washer on the shaft.

To Attach Flat Beater,Wire Whip, or Spiral Dough Hook, simply
1. Slip flat beater on beater shaft.

2. Turn beater to right, hooking beater over the pin on shaft.

The mixer won't release the beater

If lightly tapping the beater to get it to compress the spring does not work then you can drive the pin out that holds the beater on.

Once the pin is out you should be able to wiggle the beater and pull it straight off the shaft without having to push it up and rotate it first. If necessary just tap it lightly and it should slide off. Then you can replace the pin and lubricate the shaft with some olive oil or other cooking oil

Having trouble removing beater from shaft... HELP

These are held on with a bayonet attachement. You need to rotate the beater to disengage from the shaft.

I would recommmend using a brass pin punch against the tang on the beater and tapping it with a SMALL hammer to rotate the beater.

Once the bayonet is disengaged, it should walk off the pin. If it doesn't you might have to use some penetrating oil like PB Blaster.

IN THE FUTURE put a light coat of mineral oil or food-safe grease on these mating parts to avoid the probllem in the future.

Kitchenaid stopped working Modle KSM150PSER

Hi Phyllis. Unplug the mixer, lay it down on one side and look for the pin that holds the planetary shaft in place next to (where you attach beater). The pin may have worked itself loose. If this pin is not all the way through it's opening, the shaft will not turn the planetary unit. Hopefully the pin did not come all the way out and you can tap it back in. If the pin is gone, It's in one of your cookies and hopfully you'll find it before anybody else does. Hope this helps. Ricardok45.
