I got a troybilt 4stroke weedeater motor from a friend, it was running before I decided to put it on a bike, problem is the recoil of the pull cord works fine when off the motor but skips and cord won't retract hangs up . When I loosen the housing screws so it can recoil it doesn't engage enough to start. Is there a "sweet spot' side to side , up and down?

SOURCE: Starter on trimmer wont retract

i'm sorry to tell you this, you have to take take the hole recoil apart.either the spring is broken or the dog that holes the spring is not engaged.to fix it you have to take it apart.restring the rope, make sure the dog is catching the spring, rotate the recoil rotor to tension the spring, retie the handle and reinstall the recoil as an assembly.hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions...........

SOURCE: doesn,t engage with engine

sounds like the dogs and or springs are worn. When you had the cover off the machine did you check that the dogs would freely move out when the rope was pulled? They some times stick and will not engage.

My weedeater pull rope won't retract back inside when pulled to start, how do I fix this?

Spring is likely sprung out of the recoil. Take the recoil apart, rewind the cord and turn it enough to put some tension on it. Then put the cover back on.

Stihl chainsaw MS460 Can't pull recoil

It could be the recoil is stuck. a couple of things to check. Take the clutch and chain cover off, remove the spark plug and manually try to turn the motor over by turning the clutch. If the motor/engine is not seized, take the pull start/recoil cover off and pull on the cord to see if it will work and that the cord returns back into the recoil automatically. Don't take the nut off the inside of recoil holding the cord spool on. If the engine is not seized, and the recoil now goes in and out by pulling the start cord handle reassemble and pull over the engine a few times. This a good time to check the spark plug is working, now put the spark plug back in and start the engine. It's a good time to clean the air filter as well while the chainsaw is mostly apart and clean all oily sawdust off the chainsaw in the crevices etc..

After I have put the pull cord back together. How do I get it back on the bike. It recolls befor I put it on the bike ones I put it on the bike it does not want to recoll

be sure when putting cover on, that the recoil is engaging smoothly as your putting on, no wedging or binding.
Its possible that you simply need to pre-load the recoil spring a couple more rounds. pull the rope out a couple rounds - hold the insides - and wrap the cord around the pully to take-up the extra pulled out.

I have a Troy Bilt Weedeater Model # TB415CS Here is the problem my wife decided to use this unit while I was at work one day and broke it. When I go throught the start up routine and go to pull the start...

If the rope recoils back into the starter, at least the starter spring is not broken...but...if you can break the unit down to where you can get a good look at it, you may find that the ratchets on the starter pulley are not engaging with the pawls on the flywheel...The pawls are spring loaded so they engage and then drop out of the way when starting, See if you can break the machine down to that point and post back,

The pull cord on my poulan pro weedeater will not

You have a broken recoil spring. Dis-assemble (pull-off) the recoil housing and check for proper dog alingnment, broken spring, or something jammed between recoil sprocket and engine block.
