Please let me know the model of your machine. In general, if you are
having print quality issues, such as lines dots or black patches, these
are usually due to toner cartridge. Genuine Replacement of Toner
cartridge is advisable.
However, you may get your toner cartridge re-filled, if its parts are
working properly. Cartridge parts like OPC, PCR and magnetic roller can
be replaced. Re-filling the toner is always cheaper and costs around
1/4th of the new toner price. So, check for the price of new toner and
compare.
I have refilled/ refurbished toners myself and had no issues. Properly
re-filled/ refurbished cartridge would NOT cause any damage to the
printer. So, you may get your toner refilled by some good professional
and it would work fine.
