Mitsubishi WD-73838 - Watching TV all seems good and then it shut off small pop heard, thought a lamp but it turns on with picture & sound then off after 10 seconds.

First thought was a new lamp this one is only about a year old but after letting it cool down it does come on again picture & sound are fine then same thing happens after about 10 seconds (followed by one quick red flash and then flashing green for 30 seconds) Tried System reset & Unplugging for a while, no change. Can't do the TV reset as it won't stay on long enough. Any help is appreciated... its been working great up until this.

Do you see a small fan close to it? Is it gunked up with dust? It could be the bulb but it sounds like it isn’t getting cooled.

Did try that, vacuumed out the entire compartment and both visible wheels/fan blades but didn't make a difference

It sounds like a power supply failure then would be my next diagnosis. You can try one other thing but it is. Long shot. Change the location it is plugged into and see if you get different results. It needs to be n outlet on a different circuit breaker. It could be bad outlet or cord but like I did these are long shots compared to the info you have given.

SOURCE: WD-52525 Shuts off, shows red lamp light even after replacing lamp

Turn on the set and let it shut down. push in the Menu and Device (or input, I don't have a schematic in front of me) buttons on the front of the set at the same time and hold until the green light starts flashing. Then release. There will be two different sets of flashes, such as, 3 and 6. The code 12 means the set is opperating fine. The other codes will tell you what part of the set needs repaired. Also, remove the bulb and check the ballast connection to the bulb. I find the connection for the bulb bent over when a customer replaces the lamp sometimes. Let me know what you find and we can go from there.

SOURCE: No picture, hear sound, television will shut off after a few seconds.

Take out the bulb (back left hatch door) look to see if the element inside the bulb is broken or blackened - (replace bulb) if the bulb looks OK then it's the ballast that fires the bulb (service call).

fixityrsel is wrong.
1 The "Airflow message"is just a bad connection and very easily solved.Mitsubishi has a service bulletin out and will cover the repair for free. Your set may not even have the defective connectors.
Your set was manufactured in 2004..Call any authorized Mitsubishi
servicer.

Capacitors are very easy to find! Any (105 degree) PC mount 3300uf@ 16VDC will work fine..and not bulge again..Higher Working voltage than the stock 10 VDC is what caused the problem with the caps.
Mouser electronic is one of hundreds of suppliers for those caps
Order online if you know for sure they are bad in your set.

Mitsubishi WD-82837 pop noise and no power

Sounds like your bulb blew. Here is a link to a very good priced replacement bulb with housing . These are very simple to change yourself. http://www.projectorlampsworld.com/projector-manual/mitsubishi-wd-82837.html
also, here is a link to a video showing how easy it is. They are made to be replaced by the consumer.
How to replace the lamp in your Mitsubishi TV: http://youtu.be/_ONPuB5L-x4
Note, your bulb assembly may vary slightly from the one in the video, but it should come out and go in the same way.
You will need a plastic grocery bag or small garbage bag, some rubber, or latex, or clean cloth gloves, and a medium phillips screwdriver.
Good luck!

I get sound but no picture then the tv shuts off after 5min. It is a Mitsubishi wd-73837

Popping noises are not a good sign; I suspect the sound came from the catastrophic death of an electrolytic capacitor or worse, the death a a power semiconductor.
Open the lower cabinet and using a good light, look for a smaller, separate board with fairly large parts on it; some cylindrical in shape, others block-like that may have copper wire showing.
If, as common, this board is plugged with connectors into other parts of the system, you may be able to swap the failed board out for a replacement bought from a Mitsubishi service center.Expect to pay $100-$150 US if the set is no longer under warranty.

Was watching tv heard a sound like breaking glass then picture started freaking out. now when you turn it on all you hear is a scratching sound, and the picture wont come on.please, give me ideas ! model...

If you had a picture, even briefly, after the sound you heard then in all liklihood it's the color wheel that broke. Not a DIY friendly project unless you're very good with electrical/mechanical repairs, especially small fragile items :(

We was watching the tv . we heard a big pop the picture was gone we did have sound if we turn it on it is on a minute then shuts off

A component in the TV has failed, maybe a capacitor, but can't tell without looking at it. Would need to take it to a repair shop for diagnosis and repair.

HEARD LOUD POP NOISE DLP TV DOES NOT WORK

Following up on my Feb 7 post. My new lamp arrived, and I replaced it and it works great. The old lamp had many shards of glass come out of it. It was tore up. I saved some money buy purchasing just the lamp and not the cartridge. It's a little bit more work to take apart, but saves money. Mitsubishi wanted $289 for the lamp replacement kit. I got a lamp for $114. TV is working just fine now!
