I just received my bike yesterday and put it together. I did a test ride and found that the tension is not working. The knob turns but will not change the tension. Can you help with this please?

SOURCE: the tempreture in my cbr 400rr get high every time

Is your fan kicking on when your bike starts to get hot?

On my cbr the fan would kick on at 215 degrees. Even sitting in traffic on a 90 degree day my bike would only get up to 220 at most.

If your fan is kicking on when its suppose to and you have your radiator filled up full then I would check your thermostat.

The thermostat is an object that opens up when your engine reaches a temperature of around 180 degrees and lets antifreeze run through your engine to keep it cool. If the thermostat isn't opening up then the antifreeze isn't circulating through your engine, its just sitting inside your radiator. And that's not what you want.

You can remove the thermostat from your bike and put it in a pan of water and heat the water up with a candy thermometer in the water and you should see your thermostat open up at around 180 degree's. Just do this on the stove. The water won't be boiling so you will be able to see it open up.

Hopefully its just your thermostat because they are very cheap(around 10 bucks).

If your thermostat is good and your fans kick on when they are suppose to then I would say its a water temp sensor or a sensor period.

I'll bet though that if you take your bike for a ride and when it gets around 215 degrees that your fan isn't kicking on to help the motor cool back down.

Hopefully this is the case and if it is you can just run the fan wires to your battery and hook up a toggle switch to turn your fans on whenever you please. This is just a bandaid fix and not fixing the real problem but it will get you by until you can fix it the right way.

Well I hope I may have been of some assistance and good luck,
Remember to check your fluid while the bike is running and warmed up completely, because if you just fill your radiator with the bike turned off it will only fill your radiator with fluid and not your motor as well(because the thermostat will be closed) which is what you want. Also after you fill your radiator when the bike is running and you can fill it any more let the bike run for a little while with the cap off to let any air in the cooling system purge out of the open radiator. You should see some air bubbles coming out of the radiator cap hole. If you have air in the system that will cause your bike to overheat as well. Had this happen on a Honda Car.

GOOD LUCK,
AadoubleA

SOURCE: changed bottom screen tested before putting back

Hi,

Happens sometimes it is one of two things:
1) When you put the DS back together is the ribbon from the top screen wound to tightly as this can cause the ribbon to pull out slightly from the socket on the motherbaord causing the blackout.
2) I have seen this happen only once before! The plsatic of the shell had a small chip where the battery connectors from the motherboard stick through into the battery compartment. THis tiny piece of plastic was stopping the final connection between battery and DS. Drove me mad, did all the usuals checked battery connections etc. Worht a look.

SOURCE: The pedal hits the tire whilst turning

The pedal should not be able to reach the front tire. Sometimes one gets their toes to overlap the front wheel on a racing bike but that's because they have intentionally short wheel base and a steep for angle. Which way is the fork on your bike pointing? It should be angled or curved forward.

Look at the bike icon on this posting for an example.

I had to jump start my bike manually after someone left the key in the ignition which killed the battery. now the engine light wont turn off, it doesn't affect the bike while riding it performs normal

Could be a voltage spike issue, disconnect the battery and test it. Short the pos and neg WIRES to the bike together for a minute. Hook the battery back up.

Top tension problems...the stitching will not respond to the tension knob adjustments..

Test top thread tension. Remove top thread, set tension selector to 4, presser foot up, and needle up. Thread machine up to needle eye. Threading needle eye won't be necessary.

Now make a long slow steady pull of top thread. Thread should advance smoothly without snagging or sudden change of tension. Next lower the presser foot and repeat with long slow steady pull of top thread. Again thread should advance smoothly without sudden change in tension. Note the difference of no tension when foot up and selected tension 4 with foot down.

If you find there is no difference between foot up (no tension) and foot down (selected tension) then tension disc are not working or thread is not between tension discs.

How do i adjust the tension on a ActionC100 exercise bike

I just fixed a C100with the same problem today as follows:
Take off the pedals, seat pole, and side panels ( 3 long screws on the top and 4 short screws on the bottom then push out [from the inside] the pedal shaft outlet covers and gently take the covers off by turning the pedal shaft). You'll see the cable to the wheel and secure it to the lower chassis rail by tape or a cable tie, then undo the lock nut on the cable end and extend the screwed sleeve by 10 mm. You'll then see that pulling and releasing the outer cable will loosen and tighten the magnetic brake more smoothly. Good Luck, Andy

I have just bought a Yamaha warrior 2003 model and went for a ride yesterday with my neighboor who has the same bike. We swapped bikes for a while and the ride on his bike was so much softer. We looked at...

There are two spring tensions used. 127 or 137N/mm.
Be carefull adjusting the unit because over-adjustment can release the mechanism and spring with disasterous results.
At one end of the unit are a pair of half nuts. One of which, the outermost, is the lock nut.
With two spanners, release the lock nut. Screwing the adjustment nut in will increase the tension.
I have a Buel M2 and a friend of mine adjusted the tension too low. He went over a trough in the road at speed leaving the rear numberplate and lights behind!

I hope that helps and ride safe!

Shock adjustments

The shocks have small holes around them. Normally there is a tool in the tool kit that allows you to hook the hole and spin the the base of the shock to increase or decrease the tension on the shock.Increasing the tension is better for two up riding . Decreasing the tension is better for solo riding. You may need a special tool , a wrench with a hook or tooth on it to turn the nut. When setting up the suspension , with the bike loaded the way you intend to ride, bounce on the motorcycle. Whether you set it soft or hard , you want the front and back to drop together at the same time to prevent wash outs during extreme driving conditions such as fast corners or emergency turns and stops.

I put the bike in gear but when i pull the clutch lever in, it wont disengage and stays in gear??

if the clutch lever feels it has plenty of tension, it may just be the clutch plates stuck together from sitting.

Roll start it and ride around while holding in the clutch, vary the throttle, and they usually unstick. Give it an oil change when it warms up.

The bike will not shift into gear. The clutch has plenty of spring tension just will not engage

if the bike has been sitting for a while the clutch plates can stick together, you will still feel spring tension from the pressure plate. two ways to free it up.
with the engine stopped click it up into top gear, put the front wheel against a wall, pull in the clutch, and push on the kick start, or push start it in gear, pull in the clutch and vary the throttle .
Change the oil after the ride with good motorcycle engine oil.

99 gsxr 750 losing power after 10k rpm if you have

The carburetor jets, there are 3 bands; A low, mid range and high range rpms. 10k would fall in the Mid range power. I would let the bike warm up a little bit and tweak the middle knob on the left side of the bike and keep in mind you need the right mixture so turn it quarter turn one way at a time per testing the mid range rpms while riding, tweaking 1/4 turns in between tests. If it gets worse, turn it the other direction until you find that sweet spot in the mixture of fuel/oxygen. Easiest way to change a spring on the rear shock on 06 demo 8

The easy way is the only way, you have to remove the shock from the frame, unscrew the spring and its perch should slide over the shaft at the rebound knob end (red knob). Be careful not to nick or scratch that shaft on the way in or out!! Put everything back together, screw the spring down so that the perch (support plate) has it's little slot in top of the red knob and the last bit of the coil (the part that is cut) is on the other side of the perch. Torque it down to 120in/lbs and go a ride!
