I have a Samsung Model No: UN39FH5000F and Version No: PF03. While watching TV, the screen flashed twice and went completely blank. When I turn it on, I hear the on/off jingle. However, I do not see the back lights behind the TV. I also performed the flashlight test and I am able to faintly see the menu screen. Does this sound like the LED Driver needs to be replaced?

I connected my surround sound to the audio output on my samsung tv and it works fine. Of course I don't have an hdmi input on my surround sound system because its an older model, but it works great. Just got to put the surround sound to audio instead of dvd or tuner setting

m_r_murphy, The T220 may have developed an internal ac to dc "switch-mode-power-supply / CCFL inverter supply" power problem an you may need to need to have it repaired, Look into warranty or outside technician to refurbish the unit's SMPS/inverter!!! From your description, I believe that the SMPS is in "partial shutdown" mode!!! (no 12 to 14v dc) to power-up the "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamps" that enable you to see the text and graphics that you already know are being displayed on your lcd panel!!! (+5vdc or 3.3vdc rail still alive!!!) You have "black screen" symptom!!! NOT BLANK n BLACK screen!!! There are lots of DIY videos on YOUTUBE to help you decide if you can attempt a cheap (<$20usd) repair to your unit. Do some reading in my old fixya profile (louie12fix) and visit some of the links you find there. Because your T220 isn't any different than any other brand of CCFL back-lit lcd display in it's basic design and operation you should be able to fix it. Get back to me lmistyrel on aim or do additional comment to this original post here on fixya with info on your next step to repair this unit.

Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.

In some models of LCD TVS; the backlight inverter and its T'Con board will be a part of the panel itself, and will be a built-in type inside the LCD panel. If so, they can't be replaced. In this case; a panel replacement is the only repair. For some other models, the backlight inverter section circuit will be a part of the main power supply regulator [SMPS]. To such sets, the power supply section circuit too should trouble shoot. Contact any service technician. The circuit will differ with models and versions.

SOURCE: I have a broken Samsung UN60FH6003FXZA . Has sound but no picture. Did flashlight test & can see menu options. Suspected the power board/ LED driver is bad. Replaced board and the problem continues

Hi Jorge,
It appears to be the backlight problem and it is common with almost all the brands. Some of the LEDs in the backlight array fail or burn and cause this problem. Replacing these LEDs solves the problem, but it is a delicate and risky job.The panel has to be opened for this and only an experience technician must do it.
Here in India we do it regularly.
