I had a problem when I went to the Garmin site to update my 2820. After the update, the touch screen function didn't work--it would freeze and I'd have to reboot it. In contacting Garmin, even though this was a high-end GPS and was not inexpensive when it came out, they said they would no longer support it and they wouldn't offer any suggestions as to how or who to go to in order to return its functionality. It looks like what happened when they stopped their customer support that they combined the software from the 2820 with their Nuvi software and while that might work for the map, it deactivated the touch-screen and bluetooth function. My unit still does not work.
Most stock units are equipped with a US & Canada map if purchased in the US. Yes, the unit will work in Italy but you will need to add a Europe Map on an SD card, as the internal memory may not be large enough to hold both maps.
Log into your account at www.garmin.com by using the myGarmin link. With the unit connected to the computer go to the myDashboard link. Your Street Pilot 2720 should show up on the dashboard. From there you should be able to apply the update. You may also want to contact Garmin support for assistance. http://www.garmin.com/us/support/contact
In order 1- Check using another device the power outlet 2- Check the garmins power cord, are the connections still firm, if they are loose and sloppy, bend the metal tangs out a LITTLE bit also note the metal tangs in the power outlet may be bent in from continued use bend them into towards the centre of the plug NOTE PULL THE RIGHT FUSE ON THE VEHICLE BEFORE BENDING OR STICKING ANYTHING INTO THE HOLE TO ADJUST THE TANGS 3- In the end that you plug into the cars power outlet is a 1 amp fuse, is this still good. 4- Does it work in somebody else's car
Try recalibrating the touch screen. Turn on unit while continuing to press the power button for about a minute. You will then be prompt to touch a series of dots on the screen. Once prompt to do so, release the power button and touch the dots. Press OK when calibration is complete. The unit will continue to power on. Good Luck.
Garmin has issues with the newer (ROHS Compliant) cards, so If you recently bought this card get a replacement from garmin.
I had these issues too with a 256 MB, garmin replace the card with 2 128MB cards, worked fine after that.
Given the cost of buying a new LCD with touchscreen is about $130 USD + shipping. Your best solution is to sell the existing unit and buy a new Nuvi or recondition C330.
Garmin will repair the unit for $150 and provide the lastest update and map.
