Once the bolt is removed, it should be able to just pull up. It may be tough but grab it from the base and pull up with some force. Carefull not to hit your face once you free it up.

SOURCE: I've had an Amana Washer model ALW880QAW for about

I couldn't wait for a rely on my posted question on March 6,2009. I was able to ask around to figure out how to clean this up. This Amana washer model has an agitator that is just clipped on. I just got my fingers underneath the agitator and pulled it off. After getting the agitator off, I was able to clean all of the old built up detergent and fabric softner with some old fashion scrubbing. Then I used some CLR to get what ever I missed. I pushed the agitator back until it clicked back into place and ran one washing cylce to clean things up.....Works great....No more old clumpy stuff showing up in the wash....

Hi

It seems that something is stuck and you'll have to remove the agitator to clean it. If this is an old style washer, then it should have a bolt under the cap that must be removed to remove the agitator, then grab hold of the agitator and lift up. If it's a not too old then the agitator just pulls out, remove cap, if no bolt, just grab hold and lift it up hard... see the picture. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

How do you remove the agitator on amana washer model lwa30aw

Unplug the Amana washing machine from the wall outlet, and open the lid. Pull the liquid fabric softener dispenser straight off of the top of the agitator. Some Maytag washers require the use of a flat head screwdriver inserted between the dispenser and the top of the agitator. Twist the handle of the screwdriver to pop the dispenser off of the agitator.

Remove the barrier cap inside the agitator using your hands. Pull the barrier cap straight out of the agitator. There is an O-ring that attaches to the outside of the barrier cap. If it did not come out with the cap, pull the O-ring out of the center of the agitator.

Remove the bolt securing the agitator to the drive bell with the socket wrench. The bolt is inside the center of the agitator.

Place your fingers in between the bottom of the agitator and the tub. Lift straight up to remove the agitator from the tub. Keep your head out of the way in case the agitator is stuck and unexpectedly releases. If necessary, use agitator hooks. Insert them under the agitator and push down on the hooks to release the agitator.

Cloth stuck under agitator in washing machine.

there is a bolt under the fabric softner dispenser (if you have one) if not, its a plastic cap on the top of your agitator which pops off by hand or a butter knife.. then there is a bolt under there that holds the unit down..grap the bottom of your agitator and loosen the bolt and remove it...then lift up carefully on the whole thing..careful not to loose the seal and bolt to put the agitator back in place....good luck..

Agitator wont work, quiet hum and smell

Noises
Often something works it's way into the pump and makes a clicking or scraping noise. Another bad spot on this washer is the snubber ring that sits between the base and the drive unit.
1) Whirlpool, Inglis, (some) Kenmore washer..... Remove the agitator cap, some caps unscrew and some will just pull off. Look for a bolt and remove the bolt, lift up on the agitator...picture1picture2.
(2) Whirlpool, Inglis, (some) Kenmore washer.....Remove the agitator cap, some caps unscrew and some will just pull off. Look for a plastic bolt and remove the bolt, the plastic bold will have a square in the middle that the square end of the shaft of an socket extension ( or a very large flat screw driver ) will fit into the square hole to unscrew the plastic nut off...remove the upper 1/2 of the agitator....remove thebolt holding down the bottom 1/2 of the agitator, lift up on the agitator.

Agitator Removal

Most agitators also have an air gap cap underneath the fabric softener cap as well. This is to prevent water from rising inside the agitator and getting to the drum bearings. Look closely under the fabric softener cap to see if there is another cap that you might have to remove. You can usually use a small flat tip screwdriver to lift the cap off. You will need a socket (with extender) and ratchet to reach the mounting bolt. As you loosen the bolt, you will need to hold on to the base of the agitator at the same time to keep it from turning. Now, not knowing what your agitator looks like, it may or may not have this set up (just a thought for you try). If there is no mounting bolt of any kind as you say, the type of agitator you may have is held on by plastic grips that snap on to a mounting hub under the base. Unfortunately there is no easy way I know of besides lifting straight out. You may have to rock it side to side a little while pulling up to get the clips to release. Normally, the problem encountered with this type of agitator is the clips wear out and no longer grip and it keeps falling off. Why do you need to remove the agitator? Just wondering because you didn't mention any problems. Good luck to you. I hope this helps.
