if its that old your lucky you got the agitator off! there .should be a spline on top of transmission shaft. the agitator will slide down on it. your problem will probably be the wig-wah located on top of trans.take the back off the washer you will see 2 solenoids this is the part

Try pulling the knob out & rotating counter-clockwise to unscrew it.

I couldn't wait for a rely on my posted question on March 6,2009. I was able to ask around to figure out how to clean this up. This Amana washer model has an agitator that is just clipped on. I just got my fingers underneath the agitator and pulled it off. After getting the agitator off, I was able to clean all of the old built up detergent and fabric softner with some old fashion scrubbing. Then I used some CLR to get what ever I missed. I pushed the agitator back until it clicked back into place and ran one washing cylce to clean things up.....Works great....No more old clumpy stuff showing up in the wash....
SOURCE: Amana washer won't agitate when full with laundry
The belt is probably worn down. Replace it.
Hi
It seems that something is stuck and you'll have to remove
the agitator to clean it. If this is an old style washer, then it should have a
bolt under the cap that must be removed to remove the agitator, then grab hold
of the agitator and lift up. If it's a not too old then the agitator just pulls
out, remove cap, if no bolt, just grab hold and lift it up hard... see the picture. Hope
this helps...please post back for further assistance.
