I have a Thermador Professional range DP364GECS. The oven door doesn't close all the way. There is a small gap at the top. Does anyone know if it's possible to access the hinge box on a range?

I haven't been able to find new hinges anywhere. Has anyone tried replacing the springs in the hinges with stronger ones?

SOURCE: Fuel tank door hinge

Found on-line at other sites.

[Removing/Repairing Gas Filler Door Hinge: Tip from Bill Peyton]   The gas door hinge will break if pushed forward.  This is usually done by moving around the car with the door open, or by curious children.  The repair job can be done completely from the exterior.

The black plastic hinge is held in place by four plastic rods.  When pushed through the body of the car, they expand four rubber sleeves located on the interior, thereby holding the whole thing in place.
Remove as follows:
Open the door, and using a small punch, push the four plastic rods through to the interior of the car.  The door will now come out.  Note the position of the spring and the hinge.  Remove the spring from the old hinge, and either cut or pry our the old hinge.  This is a black plastic piece.
The ends of the new hinge are tapered to make it easier to insert into the gas door.  Clip the spring back into place.
Now for the hard part.  You will see on the new hinge four plastic rods.  These are held onto the hinge by four small connections, all molded into a single piece.  On the other side of the hinge are four plastic “flowers” split into four pieces.  You will need to push the plastic rods through the “flowers”, once the “flowers” are pushed through to the interior of the car.   Since the rods are not free floating, they tend to break off and fly away unless you hit them squarely.  If this happens, put a little taper in the ends, place them back in the hold, and push them through.  A punch and a hammer will be essential.  Alternatively, you can break the rods off while the piece is off the car, insert them manually, and drive them in again with the punch.

SOURCE: how to replace door hinge pin and bushings without a spring compr

Harbor Freight has the tool for $3.99. I just bought one last Friday and replaced my hinge pins this weekend on my 2000 Chevy Blazer. You have to get that tool. Online they are $15.00. Make sure you support the door before you take out the old pins. I just lowered the window, took rope and tied it to the garage rafters and was all set. have fun!

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

Yes this has been a fairly common issue with the Thermador wall ovens as well as their freestanding ranges.

Typically the remedy will be replacing the hinges, but there is a "fix" you can attempt in the interim. At least in hope of keeping the oven light from being on all the time, hence damaging the control board which houses the oven lights transformer.

The issue with those Thermador wall oven and freestanding range doors ( especially on the freestanding "professional" line ) is the weight of the door is so great, the hinge will actually move slightly over time, other times the entire hinge will need to be replaced.

This is what I'd recommend ( also official Thermador remedy, rest assured as I am a authorized factory trained Thermador service provider ) before pronouncing the hinges need replacing though.

**This does require a somewhat involved repair, so if you don't feel completely comfortable or have any reservation to trying this, please call in an local authorized Thermador ( B/S/H/ ) service provider.**

Recommendation: Adjust the door box hinge per instructions below.

1. Pull the oven away from the wall about 12".

2. Remove the hinge box cover plates.

3. Remove the vertical side trim piece. It covers one of the screws that must be loosened.

4. Loosen the 4 screws that secure the hinge box.

5. Place a rolled up dishtowel at the bottom of the door and close the door and apply light pressure to the door while re-tightening the four screws.

See fig below

6. Re-install the hinge box covers & side trims.

7. Re-install and secure the oven.

That should do it, ( or as stated, improve the situation ) if the hinges are too far gone they will need to be replaced unfortunately.

Let me know if you require further assistance or if indeed this solved your problem.

Thank you for choosing FixYa today and good luck going forward.

Ilve oven door adjar with a gap at the top

Yes but try removing the door usually a small lever on the hinge or just lower the door a bit and lift it off. Then put it back on and make sure it sits back down into the hinges. We had one that did the same thing and the door was just a bit out of the hinge.

Oven takes forever to heat up - its a thermador double oven - me272

Hello- Check these things first-  Door seals tend to get stiff over time. This is normal. Door hinges can become loose or get bent a bit, causing door to not close tight. This little gap can allow heat to escape, causing extended pre-heat times and frequent cycling of elements. If door doesn't seem to pull shut tightly- hinges will need to be replaced. If oven appears to operate normally otherwise, this should solve problem.  Let me know if the info helps- have more if needed- Thanks  - Ed

From door on range came off when I tried to lift up the range by the handle to slide it out. One of the hinges is hard to get back in place. There are two metal tongues on each side of the door. Is there...

Normally you force the hinges open and there will be a small hole to stick a nail in to keep them open. It is VERY hard to install the door if the hinges are trying to close it. You hold the hinges out with the nail while you install the door, then release the hinges to close by removing the nails.

2002 Thermador Gas Oven door - can't get back on after removal!

You have to get the tension off of the hinge and it will drop right in. The spring loaded arm on the door needs to be drawn back until you can (depending on the style) either lock the u-arm into the notch on the other side of the hinge, or put a small bolt through the aligning holes in the side of the hinge. Once you get the arm straightened out a bit and relieve the spring pressure, you should be able to sit it right in there. Be careful though, that spring is strong.
