What OS you run? w7? (11 years old today)
I guessed right, (REDUX 1)
you did slam the PC, with microsoft OS, Windows 7 over XP and not buy HP media kit to do so.
that means the F11 key is NOW dead for ever.
the F11 key will in fact put back XP.(HDD NOT DEAD)
FACTS:
The F11 key runs the XP HP Recovery partition install.
So F11 is useless now, totally,
That leaves your newer W7 media kit from Microsoft?,
I guess you bought the DVD? kit? or bought it online at microsft and burned the USB boot kit? OR Burned a DVD-R disk? (no media stated)
no matter , bought it from MS, the kit is good.
not from torrents and pirate sites (i cant see the media install disk so,.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,)
MS stopped selling w7 PRO on
November 1, 2016 (home ended 2 years before)
as seeb gere
https://www.extremetech.com/computing/238710-microsoft-stopped-selling-windows-7-professional-windows-8-1
but boxed sets are still sold on fleabay, NOS
new old stock exists.
so bad big battery out. GOOD ! keep it out.
at 11 years old PC we put in a new RTC coin cell next. after all it's at end of life, and our job is to extend life to the max , no?
progressing......
next we test the HDD. (next) ask how,
if smart tests fail now, that install media will fail.
like a bucket of water with holes in the bottom can not store water, your HDD is no good, if smart tests tell you it has HOLES( the HDD is Toast)

I run on win7. Never change or upgrade HDD. Basic win xp. And last year i change to win 7. battery is bad. I try reinstal win 7 but its stuck after win 7 logo show. Almost 1 hour wait no change. Only cursor with black screen. I have no idea. Maybe I must bring the laptop to tecnical support?
Im sorry larry. Its me have the question above.
Ok, as you can see history is important.
that windows 7 upgarded was not from HP
I can only presume, you bought w7 install media from microsoft and not HP, right?
if yes, from MS? (ESC)?
does the windows 7 disk boot< ? installer.
that was the long tests., above
my guess is the HDD is bad, we then test it.
there are only 2 paths.
you do it.
or the shop does.
99.9% take it to a shop.. lacking tools.
we use linux boot demo disk to test the HDD.
or we pop in a spare, good hdd, to see if w7 loads to it ok, if yes, your other HDD is toast.
The coin cell is over due. at 7 year design life span, ever consider that?
where did you get the w7 install kit.
what media is it?
did you build the kit by hand.
1: bought new w7 kit, dvd. from MS.
2: bought new w7 kit , usb from MS.
3: build either kit your self using MS ISO file.
4: or? from? HP
5: or Pirates?
as we say kits matter. (install media)
page 75
in your manual covers RTC replacement.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01...

go to bios and load defaults. if still same thing happens after reboot. Boot from OS cd, on windows etup page, choose "R" to run recovery console. Choose OS. Run CHKDSK /R.
SOURCE: Can't swich on laptop after restarting it.
You have a non-bootable CD in the CD drive and the startup sequence is looking at the CD drive before the hard drive. Remove the CD and you should be able to boot.

SOURCE: NTLDR Missing, Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart
What happened is when you changed the drive letters you switched one that should not have been changed.... You need to change it back so the original C: is C:
Because the original NTLDR file was on the C: drive which is the Windows XP Boot Loader and when you swapped it it couldnt find the ntldr on the new C:
From my opinion the only way to switch it back is to reinstall the OS onto the drive you want to be C:
SOURCE: bootmgr is compressed and press ctri+alt+del to restart
Hello ajay1 8 83
You need run SFC /SCANNOW
Read this first for more understanding http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936212/
Try booting to your Vista installation CD. Choose Repair. Select your operating system, should bethe only one. It will repair the BOOTMGR.
