Yes, but you will most likely need an adapter to adapt the 2.5" drive to a 3.5" drive slot. Additionally, if you wish to keep it as an external drive and suspect/confirm it is the enclosure that is causing the problem, you can purchase 2.5" drive enclosures pretty cheaply.

SOURCE: Drivers for simple 160gb

To access an external USB drive in Windows 98, you need to be using Windows 98 SE (Second Edition). Before SE, there was no USB support in Windows 98.

Even then, you will probably not be able to access the full 160Gb of the hard drive. Your best bet is to upgrade to a newer version of Windows, such as 2000, or XP. I know that, depending on your hardware, that might be asking a little too much, but to support all these more modern gadgets, you're going to have to give up on 98 eventually.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: sata hard drive not recognized by windows

If it is a new drive, then you need to partition and format it for windows to see it. To do this, click START, RUN and type in compmgmt.msc. CLick on Disk Managment. Look for the new drive, right click on it and select partition. When that is finish, right click the drive again and select format. Format the drive as NTSF..

click start control panel administrive tools ,computer management ,device manager scroll down universal serial bus controllers you should see a yellow question mark?
right click to reinstall drivers
make sure the lead/s that attach to this drive have a secure seating and are not bad/faulty the light on only tells that its getting power it might not be getting enough power you might test the lead/s or
just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again, sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable,
check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems
hope this helps

SOURCE: My windows XP OS won't recognize my SimpleTech SimpleDrive Pininfarina 300GB External USB 2.0 Hard Drive

I found that often, external hard drives just don't have any active partitions and thus don't show up in Windows. Go into the control panel, administrative tools, computer management and then the disk manager and see if it has a partition. If it's just unallocated space, right click and make one.

How to solve simple tech 160GB EXTERNAL USB HARD DRIVE

I was having a problem on Windows 7 with the SimpleTech 160GB drive not being recognized, went to the SimpleTech site and could not find any drivers - Went to MajorGeeks and found a driver update program - watch when you install it, do custom install so as not to get new homepage or toolbar. But it scanned and found where my drivers were deficient. Updated driver and drive is now recognized

Hi ,
This is neo , When did the setup for win XP the file system would be FAT32 . FAT32 is not supported in windows7. You can format the external drive BUT note the files in the drive will be deleted.

I upgraded my sysyem from xp to windows 7 and mu simpletech simpledrive 160 is not accissable

You will need to download a Windows 7 driver for the drive from SimpleTech. Chances are VERY great that there are no Windows 7 drivers developed for this drive. A call to SimpleTech's support line may provide you with a workaround if you can't locate a driver online.

Song files donn't STAY in iTunes

The songs are located on your Simpletech drive. You have to move them to your music folder and then specify where the library is in iTunes. If you do have music in your music folder, then on XP, after you have iTunes open, go to Edit -> Preferences. Click on Advanced, and then change the library location.
