That sounds like more than just the brushes. The cost of a new Dremel isn't going to be that much more than repairing the one that's not working. Start looking for one on sale and you won't regret it. It can be a headache and a hassle to order some of these parts because items get discontinued and almost always go up in price around the same time. Supply and demand and it's easy for the tool owner to get the short end of the Stick. I'm a repairman/service tech by trade and want to repair everything in my shop that breaks and although well-intentioned isn't always the best idea in the long run. Good luck
It's possible that the enameled copper coiling on the stator was compromised when it overheated creating a short. Sadly, unless you have a replacement stator is cannot be fixed. Sorry.

Hi1
Do you have at least 200 volts at your outlet? Check that first. You said you brought it home from work, so when you plugged it in at home did you plug it into a 120 volt recepticle?
SOURCE: stop working. brush was cloged. It there a reset button?
i had a similar thing happen and just got off the phone with dyson. there is a resettable switch on the handle. they told me to start the vacuum in the upright position, put it in the non upright position, then push and hold in the beater bar switch which is located next to the on/off button for 10 seconds and the beater bar should start to function once again

It is with regret that I must inform you that you will probably have to replace the whole unit, the field coils will have blown and almost certainly the armature - your did give it a 100% over voltage shock. The prices of the parts will be more than the cost of a new machine.
SOURCE: Tried to replace motor brush on dremel. One brush
I had to completely dismantle my dremel because both brushes were stuck. Had to basically break them apart because they were seized solid in there.
recheck the resistor. Just cause it isnt very old dosent mean it didnt go bad. Things arent made like they used to be.
