Take out your bobbin case and examine it for nicks, scratches and or rough spots. If the problem is not too bad it may be possible to buff out the bad spot with an emery stick or emery cloth. If that isn't possible or it makes too much noise after you buff it you will have to replace it. Look especially along the edges and underneath.

SOURCE: bobbin case does not stay in place

I looked at the 4210, here http://www.singerco.com/accessories/manuals.html

And I do not see any adjustment. Refer to the page for installing the bobbin - are you using the right size bobbin?

SOURCE: The bobbin holder is coming

  • When is the last time you have changed your bobbin? They do go bad and when they do it can cause a world of headaches and problems. Bobbins come in several styles and makes from wood to metal to plastic and are not always so universal. I suggest to change the bobbin with the exact same style as the one you are using and see if this helps.
  • Wind the bobbin with fresh thread.
  • Also remember that while cheap thread is cheaper it will shred, rip and jam more than it will stitch. I am not saying you are using cheap thread but just a reminder in case.
  • If you have any questions or comments please feel free to ask.
  • Thanks for using FixYa.

SOURCE: There is a noise when I sew in the bobbin case

Sounds to me as though you're not pressing the hook retainer back into place properly, or that the spring retainer is not properly engaging with the metal 'pip' on the left-hand-side of the 'U'-shaped hook retainer. You should press the hook retainer back until there is a definite 'click' and you should see the spring clip on the left just move a little bit when it clicks. You definitely shouldn't be able to 'loosen the hook race cover' at all - if you can, the hook will be able to rattle-around in the hook race causing noise and (probably) inconsistent stitch formation. The other thing you mention is that you 'cleaned-out' the hook race, but you didn't mention oiling it. If your machine has got the lightweight hook/shuttle that is black plastic with a metal hook around the outside, Bernina claims these dont need oiling, however, I've found that a small drop of oil will improve the performance of these machines immensely (note a SMALL drop of oil !). If you have an all-metal hook, you most-definitely need to oil it after cleaning ... lack of oil is probably the biggest cause of noise in machines of this type.

How can i adjust my 500e embroidery machine to stop the thread ferring up

Try reducing thread tension.

Try a different bobbin

If no change, see "Cleaning the Hook Area" in your operators manual.

Inspect bobbin, bobbin holder and hook race for burrs. Especially if a needle broke just prior to the start of the problem.

Thread quality?... As a test, try using a different (new) thread, wind a bobbin with same new thread also.

How would I secure the hook and race so they don't move after they're clipped in?

Your repairman is what's wrong! The bobbin case I believe is what you are talking about. (I hope you didn't remove the race)
1. Anyway the bobbin case has to be snug so it doesn't move clockwise or counter clockwise. If it moves the needle will crash . If your machine is an older one the truth is the same.
2. The bobbin case cannot be allowed to spin. See adjustment!
3. Before you start sewing again clean the feed dog real good.
4. Before you put the bobbin in the bobbin case (on top of race) put a drop of oil on the race.
5. Replace the needle. This is important.
If you still have a problem your machine probably needs to be timed due to the needle crashing before.

Why does The bobbin holder keeps 'crashing' with a metal 'arm' on the left.

Hum, nothing should
"crash" into anything else while sewing. The Hook (place where bobbin case snaps into) might have a broken "keeper" (internal part that "keeps" the hook stationary when sewing.) Or your bobbin case may not be installed completely or correctly.

Janome 6500 jamming - cleaned out bobbin case - no help

Have you removed the bobbin holder and then put it back in lining up the little red markings on the right hand side? If the case has moved slightly then it will keep jamming and the bobbin thread won't clear to form a stitch. The case is held in place by a magnet and a stopper but it will dislodge if you have a bad thread jam, then it keeps happening even if you have removed all the thread because its not in position.

Check this solution for image how to remove and replace the bobbin case. http://www.fixya.com/support/t9289728-bobbin_seems

When you take out the bobbin case, carefully inspect it for any damage and burrs in the black plastic, if there are any then file them carefully out with a nail file or fine sandpaper, a burr will keep catching thread too. Or you may actually need to replace the bobbin holder if it has been pierced by the needle badly, they are about $35 or so.

You may also want to get it serviced. On my 6500 during its last service the technician added a little piece that is a Janome "after sale replacement" part. It is slightly longer than the standard part, and is a little metal bit on the left hand side of the rotary hook area which is holding the bobbin holder in place better. Haven't had a major jam up since this was fitted so you may want to get this fitted on yours too.

Bobbin holder won't stay put

If the bobbin case/holder is trying to lift up and the thread is staying partly around it, your bobbin case may have turned part way.
Remove the needle plate and the bobbin case. The outer edges of the bobbin case should be very smooth. I suspect you may see a needle hole in the flat area that was under the foot. If so, you will probably wish to take it to your dealer and show them. They may smooth it or recommend replacing it. When the bobbin case is placed back into the hook cup that it sets in, the retainer at the 11 o'clock position on it should only allow the case to lift up about 0.8 to 1mm at the most. If it will lift up more than this, press down firmly on the retainer and move it closer to the bobbin case. You must have enough room for the thread to pass between the retainer and the bobbin case, but too much clearance will allow the bobbin case to turn in the machine and it will be damaged by the needle.
