I bought my grandfather a Garmin echomap 44 DV. Recently the transducer was stolen is it possible to still use it without the transducer

A transducer is used to assist in sonar for fish mapping. The unit you mentioned in your question has multiple capabilities, sonar fish detection is just one of them and also happens to be one feature that a transducer is used for in this particular unit and application. I believe it will work without the transducer. This is based upon my locating reports of other Garmin models working without the transducer such as the Garmin echoMAP CHIRP 74sv. Garmin support would likely respond to such an inquiry.
