SOURCE: gas dryer with gas smell and no heat

It sounds like your GLOW BAR gas igniter is bad. This is an electric powered heater coil that , when it glows red hot, ignites the gas burner. This part normally fails at least once during a dryers normal service life. If you are handy, you may be able to replace the part yourself. Otherwise, have a technician look at it. If you want to DIY, go to an appliance parts store . Remove and observe the GLOW BAR from your gas dryer. If one of the metal element appears to be burned open, replacement is necessary.. Show the part, along with your dryer maker, model, and serial number, to the store employee. This person can give you helpful info along with a new part. If the GLOW BAR is NOT burned out, seek out a technician.

SOURCE: Is there a picture available to show where and how the front felt seal should be replaced? The old felt wasn't glued down and not in a place that I can tell where the new one should go. Thank you

http://www.pcappliancerepair.com/model-display.php

The felt is part #12 on the drawing. It shouldn't be hard to figure the exact placement from the pictures on the site.

SOURCE: front felt drum seal on ge came off---hard to repair?

Open the dryer door. At the top of the door opening, there should be two screws holding the top of the dryer down. Remove those screws and the top will rotate up, giving you access to the drum.

SOURCE: fit felt drum seal to zanussi td4212 w tumble dryer

I take it that the belt is ok and the drum is turning. The heater comes with thermostats fitted as a complete part. There is an overload safety thermostat which is situated inside the drum and above the door,it is held in place with a self tapping screw then prise open the plastic cover and then the thermostat will pull out,if replacing remember to refit the small gasket.Have you checked the filters and exhaust hose for any blockages as this will affect the heating.

Hope this helps

SOURCE: must replace front drum felt seal?

The front of the dryer comes off depending on the model . I;ll list the most common ways
There are 4 different designs that used on these dryers and each one has its own specific way to access the element, blower, fuses. etc In this FAQ I will describe each design and method to access for each one. ---------------Design 1: This design for this dryer has the heating components located in the front of the machine, which means to gain access you'll have to lift the top and remove the front. You can visually verify this specific type because the lint screen is located inside the dryer requiring you to open the door to gain access to it. As with any do itself repair, always unplug the machine before you start. Here's the method of access listed in numerical order. 1) Remove the lower kick plate by pressing in the two clips, one on each side located in between the upper and lower portion of the front In doing this you'll gain access to the element, located on the right hand side facing, the high limit and thermostat fuse located on the element, the cycling thermostat, located on the blower housing, and thermal fuse, located next to the cycling thermostat. In gas models the gas coils and ignitor may be located on the left hand side facing. If changing the belt, rollers or motor, continue to step two. 2) Lift the top by placing a flat head screwdriver in between the front and the top of the dryer and pry it upwards. In some cases there are two metal clips, one on the left and one on the right, that need to be pushed forward to lift the top up. 3) With the top up and the kickplate removed take the door springs off, one on each side, and remove the door by taking out the 4 screws one upper left and right, one lower left and right, off and don't forget to disconnect your door switch-----------------Design 2 : In this design the heating components are located in the rear of the machine. All you have to do is get behind the dryer, remove the 9 1/4" screws and remove the panel. The element eill on the right had side with the two fuses located on it, the cycle and thermal fuse will be on the lower left on the blower housing. To access the belt, rollers etc, remove the lint trap on top, take out the two screws that are underneath it and using a flat head screwdriver pop the top up. Next, located the two screws that are on the upper left and right inside front of the machine that hold the front. Remove these and then you'll be able to lift and pull the dryer front completely off.--------------Design 3 : In this design the components are located in the front of the machine, but to access them you'll follow the method used in design 2 for accessing the belt, rollers, etc.take out the two screws that are underneath it and using a flat head screwdriver pop the top up. Next, located the two screws that are on the upper left and right inside front of the machine that hold the front. Remove these and then you'll be able to lift and pull the dryer front completely off. The set up will be like design one.--------------- Note: The best way to determine if your dryer is desgin 2 or 3, remove lint trap and pop the top. When you've got this done, you'll be able to look in between the inside rear wall and the rear panel and see if the element, fuses atc are there. If not it will be design 3---------Design 4 : HE, HE2, Duet, etc the way you take the top off is a little different. For these machines, there are 3 to 4 screws located on the top back side you'll need to remove, and then the dryer top can be slid back and removed. From there you'll remove the kickplate in come cases by taking the 3 or 4 screws off located at the bottom of the kickplate. With that removed you will be able to remove the front, but only after you remmove the control panel. The In some cases the components will be located in the rear like the second design.

We have a General Electric Dryer, Model # DDE 5300 GBLWH.WE KEEP GETTING WHAT LOOKS LIKE OIL STAINS IN THE CLOTHS .IT NOT THE WASHER THATS A GE TOO .

There could be some rubber/plastic or other contaminants in the drum, that leach on to your clothes when the dryer heats up. It's possible that some oil got on the felt seal that goes around your drum.

Maytag dryer is leaving black marks or rings on clothes

If your clothes get marked or torn in your dryer, check these: Rollers Rear seal Front glides Front seal Rollers Your dryer may use rollers, or wheels, to support the rear of the clothes drum. When these are worn out, they may cause the clothes drum to drop down slightly, which can pinch the clothes between the top of the clothes drum and the rear of the dryer interior. When the rollers wear out, you need to replace the whole set. Rear seal Your dryer may have a felt-like seal at the rear of the drum. If this seal is worn, torn, or missing, clothes can get caught and torn in the space between the clothes drum and the rear of the dryer interior. When the rear seal wears out, you need to replace it. Front glides Your dryer probably uses nylon or plastic glides at the front of the clothes drum for support. The dryer squeals (metallic sound) while drying clothes.

check wear pads around front of drum or rear depending on brand. Ge's are particularly prone to scraping sounds, but still one of my preferred brands. IF a ge, did it get any dents around the sides or back? The drum is close to the sides and a dent in right place will do it. Also the rear panel can push the drum forward rubbing in front.
Ge - wear strips in front, plastic bearing in rear center, replace both, inexpensive.
Whirlpool- felt pad and wear strip in front, felt seal in rear with roller support. check rear seal lube rollers
Maytag -roller in front and rear with front and rear felt seals. some designs have front drum support posts with wear pads. ck these.
Frigidaire (include some sold under GE name) rear bearing cup (plastic)-lube, front feltpad with wear plates if plates gone get new pad/wearplate asm.
Maytag and ge nomenclature tags are in rear .
