To fix this issue you really need to hire a professional for safety purposes. You are looking around $500 + or - $50 for this repair.

.
This may have already been dealt with, but others can benefit from an accurate, thoughtful reply to this problem.

Concerning the problem Guest is having with the fan coming on when the door is open.

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount, or a problem on the control panel.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside.

If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, linked here on Fixya: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

Concerning the original problem of no heating:

Generally, the most common causes of a failure to heat are:

- bad door switches or door switch mounts
- loose connection at the magnetron
- problem or loose conneciton on the control unit circuit board

SOURCE: LG LMVM1935SB Microwave won't heat anymore!

With these symptoms, I would suspect you have a bad magnetron.

If it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty (usually 5-9 years) but out of the original full warranty (usually 1 year), then your manufacturer will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you or the labor charge to do the work.

Some manufacturers will send you the magnetron to do it yourself. If nothing else, you can save about $75 by taking it to the shop yourself.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use (in order given) for test help, but read the safety warnings first:

SOURCE: Everything works except heat

Sounds like you've had a failure in the microwave portion of the unit.

Microwave not heating problems when the timer/controller board appears to function properly, are related to the following components -

1) Diode
2) Capacitor
3) Transformer
4) Magnetron

hi..Your micro hood is "shot".so it is not working properly.
The food may not be heating, but the electrical and the walls
of the unit might heat. This may cause sparking and melting
of the interior of the unit.

Is it worth fixing our 9 year old above stove microwave Kitchenaid YKHMS2050SS - 2? Random beeping and now not heating.

I'm sorry to say that it's most likely the magnetron that's shorted out (the high voltage device that produces microwaves). It's usually the case with ovens this old that a compatible replacement won't be available.

There's also the fact that your oven is likely way past it's 'end-of-life' date so even if you could find a replacement, other components will begin to fail as more time passes.

In short, save yourself the money, time, and frustration with a new unit. Good luck!

I have a KitchenAid microwave model # KCMS185JSS. Everything works except it stopped heating up anything. Is there a separate fuse for the microwave heating? Where is it? can I fix this myself?

Sounds like the microwave's magnet tron (join two words together this page will not allow the correct word) the has gone down. They only last a short time depending on use. Not a great job to do on your own (if you do not know what you are doing) the part cost about 35pounds so most cheap microwaves are not worth repairing, if it is an expensive one it may be worth paying for the repair.

Kitchenaid KCMS185JSS

The problem is one of the door switches has failed, usually caused by food partical buildup, switch must be replaced for normal operation.

I have kitchen aid microwave modelkcms185jss starts runs fine but does not heat food at all.

Does not heat food means a problem on magnetron tube and fuse blown in high voltage area. Have it replaced and it will heat again.
I hope I answer your problem.

KitchenAid Architect II KHHC2090S Stainless Steel 1200 Watts Convection / Microwave Oven. Microwave quit heating. Inverter and magnetron replaced by the repairman. Still no heat but the magnetron gets...

Perhaps the "repairman" should take another look at it. A lot of microwave ovens have an aerial that directs the energy out to the load or food to be heated.
Maybe...maybe not but worth a look behind the waveguide cover I would say.

My KitchenAid microwave oven's model number is KCMS185JSS-4. Manufacture date is July 2005. It's been working fine until today, with an occasional glitch in the digital readout... sometimes the letters...

Either your high voltage rectifier or magnetron (or both) has failed.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.
