SOURCE: My canon powershot sd950 is not turning on after I

I had the same problem. I sent it to Canon and it came back today fixed and free of charge even though I've had it for almost two years. Then I tried using it again tonight and it doesn't work again. I charged the battery pack, still not working. I found out that this camera has a service notice for it on canon's site. My camera does have one of the serial #'s they describe. I guess they fixed it for free b/c it was a loose screw but now it's come loose again the same day. How frustrating! I have to have a camera for tomorrow so I'll go buy another camera. I'll still send this one back to Canon and see what they do this time.
Here's the link so you can check your serial #. Good luck!

SOURCE: Camera won't power up

Mine was the microswitch that tells the camera the battery / card door is closed. The tiny, cheap plastic protrusion that pushes on the switch broke off. Jam the switch with the end of a toothpick.

My SD950 just refused to power on during a trip out west. Apparently a screw might have come out that prevents the camera from turning on. The repair is free-of-charge, even fro out-of-warranty period.
It is a beautiful camera: pictures are not too shabby, but the design is fantastic for a portable ...

The solution to your problem is simple, Kathrynbax.

The battery never comes in fully charged. It's always charged only so you may be able to check if your camera is working. I suggest, you take out your battery and put it to charge for exactly 90 minutes as the manual says. Then I'm sure you won't face any such problems.

Hope this solves your problem.

Good day!

Wont go to picture taking screen or playback menu

A lot of cameras seem to be having this issue (including myself). Eventually it got to a point where the camera doesn't even turn on properly anymore. Better take it back for repair, STAT before it ends up like mine :(

Here are the steps for the no power problem: 1. Make sure you will install a new or fully charged battery/batteries into your camera. Please use lithium batteries Ni-Mh or rechargeable Batteries (2000 M.Amp or higher). 2. Clean the battery contacts. a. Remove the battery/batteries and the memory card from your camera, then wipe the battery contacts with a soft, clean cloth. b. Reinstall the battery/batteries into your camera 3. Turn on your camera without the memory card. (If it works then it?s your memory card that is faulty)

Camera will not function

Try a new battery in the camera, if that does not work, decide if the camera is worth sending to canon to see if they can work out the proublem. Though this is likely to be costly, you maybe better of buying a new camera instead.
