Jerry, you may have a low pressure output on the air pump behind the electric fan motor. There are 2 plastic plugs at the rear cover where the filter is. One is just a plug. If you have a low pressure air gauge say 10-20 psi max, you can remove this plug and screw it in that hole. Do not over tighten the gauge. The other plug increases air pressure when you turn it clockwise, counter clockwise to decrease. this model usually is set around 6 - 6.5 psi. If the pressure does not increase, it may be time to remove the rear pump cover and investigate the filters, rotor & carbon blades.

SOURCE: reddy heat/scheu kerosene space heater no ignition

Typical kero heater uses either a spark ignition or a hot surface. The hot surface igniter is very fragile. A small bump may break the elements. Flame is detected by a photocell, signal is sent to the lockout relay board. Change the igniter costs about 50 bucks.

SOURCE: Reddy Heater runs but will not ignite with bonnet attached.

First, let me say that the general principal of fuel delivery ***to the spark plug*** depends on several things.

  1. Proper air pressure at the nozzle (provided by the rotor/motor)
  2. Proper “fuel pattern” at the nozzle (provided by the rotor/motor/nozzle)
  3. Proper amount of ***air & fuel*** at the nozzle (provided by the rotor/motor/nozzle)
  4. Proper ***air flow (cfm) through the combustion chamber (provided by the fan blade/motor)
  5. Proper rpm’s of the motor, which affects all of the above.

On your heater the first step is to set the air pressure to specs. Instructions are on the www.reddyparts.com website. This pressure setting directly affects fuel delivery & fuel atomization

This nozzle rule will only apply if everything is correct as far as fuel delivery applies. The pump pressure must be correct- not almost correct. Set the pressure with a low-pressure gauge that registers12-15 psi max. A gauge with a higher scale just will not read close enough to satisfy the system. If the pressure is not correct, the above rule will not apply. Instructions for setting the pressure can be viewed at http://reddyparts.com/pressure.htm.

  • Next, if the fan is OK (correct & intact) look at the NOZZLE. DESA recommends annual replacement of the nozzle, which is a wear item. Naturally, annual usage varies, so, wear will depend on annual usage. A worn nozzle produces a cone shaped SPRAY rather than a cone shaped FOG. A spray drowns the spark, where a fog gets ignited, provided it contacts the spark. ALSO, the pattern from a worn nozzle can completely miss the spark (combustion??? Hardly!). When the top is lifted the change in airflow allows a false correction in the combustion chamber, allowing combustion, but when the top is replaced the flame is extinguished. A restricted nozzle or a restricted fuel filter will also distort the fuel pattern and create the same symptom. Also, like the fan blade, make sure that the correct nozzle is installed. Nozzles get swapped, too.

SOURCE: RM115 Reddy Heater forced air heater problem

I had close to the same problem i drain the tank added new fuel still no diffrence so i removed the filter going to the tank pick up flushed out with brake clean it work fine for half a day . I knew then i was on the right track . I went to the local hardware store and bought a tune up kit that had the filter in it,I replaced the filter going to the tank pick up and it's been working fine even in cold weather. Fuel quality has a big part to play in it's abbility to burn in colder tempicures.

SOURCE: 150,000 BTU propane Reddy Heater shuts off after ignition

Is there a frost line on your LP tank, if so you may need to replace the tank with a larger tank or refill your tank. This can happen if the tank your using is too low or too small (use 100 lb tank or greater). If there is no frost line it may be an issue with the thermocouple. The manufacturer offers a service manual and owner's manuals on there site. This should assist you... www.desatech.com Thank you

SOURCE: heater will not stay on rm60 reddy heater

When you say the heater is coming on does it actually ignite or is the motor just running until the safety circuit kicks it off? The air pump on you heater should blow at 3.5 to 4 psi which runs up to the nozzle which is a venturi which sucks the fuel out of the tank. The motor will generally run for 20 to 30 seconds trying to ignite. If the flame sensor does not sufficient flame during the time it shuts the motor off. Check these items and let me know what you find.

125btu reddy heater, somene mixed some gas in the heater and now it won't ignite. how to fix??

Drain it clean it out real good clean out the fuel system end to end. From the line in to the tank thru the filter and so on remove the nozzle clean the screen and nozzle put it all back together. with the top section removed try to start the heater. You should have a fine mist of fuel and spark if it lights shut it down and clean the photo electric eye with a soft cloth and windex. make sure the igniter is clean and close to the fuel mist for ignition, put the top on and turn on your heater.

Hello, I have a 70,000 btu readdy heater that don't want to ignite. When I pull the top cover off the heater works fine, but the minute I put the cover back on it does not want to ignite. I'm stumped.

Does your heater have an oxygen sensor on it? If so try gently cleanig dust, lint or other debris from it . If that does't help I would replace it. I hope thishelps you. Thanks

Reddy Heater 55,000 has trouble igniting with top half attached

I'm assuming you mean the protective cover on the top of the unit? If so pull the back off the unit. Replace the filter. Buy a test gauge at www.reddyparts.com and set the pressure to 3.5 psi and I think your unit will run fine.Let me know how you make out.

Will not start unless top cover is off

Check that the fan is clean and unobstructed. It sounds like something may be cutting down the air flow. Or the cad eye may be faulty or dirty.
Hope this helps.
