Make sure that the fan is not obstructed and the area is clean. I know a man who bought a new freezer because his old one quit working. While taking out the old one, found a mouse stuck in the fan. Cleaned everything up and the freezer worked for 10 more years.

Please don't rate this solution because people generally don't rate well when it's bad news, even though the response is correct. When the DC evap. motor goes out, it can take out the motherboard. (located behind the small panel on back of the refrig.)

SOURCE: Model is GSS25WGMD WW No cooling in freezer or refrigerator

look for ice or forst build up on the rear wall of freezer compartment, sounds like you may have a defrost problem. this will affect temps in freezer and refrig. the most common def problems for GE are bad defrost heaters. these are model specific and fairly easy to replace your self. i got this part number form Sears.com WR51X10055 good luck peyton

1. is light on in side when you open the door. If not check breakers or fuses.
2. Can you hear the compressor running. If not do you hear any clicking sounds.
3. If you hear clicking sounds, try putting a fan on compressor and unplug refrigerator.
4. Wait one hour.
5. plug back in. If compressor starts let it run and see if it cools, if it doesnt, call service man.
6. If it goes back to clicking, call a service man.

Freezer has to be thawed out every 2 to 3 days. The refridgerator side isn't staying cool enough to keep milk from spoiling. It is a Hotpoint Model #HSS25GFTA WW and is only 2 1/2 years old. It is a side...

Could be multiple problems. First, check the freezer compartment and make certain that the freezer fan is running. This fan moves cold air from the freezer compartment to the refrigerator. If it's not running, inadequate cold air gets to the refrigerator.

Your having to defrost manually sounds like there could be a problem with the defroster circuitry; however, check out the fan operation first.

The fan should be at the top of the freezer. There is probably an access panel you can remove to see if it's turning. However, you should be able to hear it if it's turning.

If the fan is not turning, you will need to remove it and replace it.

I have an old Hotpoint refrigerator. My problem

Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay.
Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM).

Loud vibrating sound with compressor starts up

remove the back cover and visually inspect the small fan under the fridge, chances are the fan or blade has become unbalanced or the mount has come loose or failed.
