SOURCE: burning smell, vacuum wont turn on now

the front of the machine ( the peice that holds the brush roller ) and the bag unit are part of a safety system that will only let it turn on if both are locked firmly in place, after checking that examine the cord, look for any burn marks especially at the plug and where the cord clips into the retainer on the handle and if you can where it plugs into the machine but you will probably need a set of torx screwdrivers for that. if there was any funny noises before it shut off the kids could have damaged the motor, and just because the belt isnt broken it can still get burnt and make a bad smell change them ever six months to a year

I would check the brush roller and make sure it turns good and replace the belt on it . When you smell burning rubber most of the time it is the belt .

How To Replace a Belt on a Kirby Generation G3-Sentria Vacuum Cleaner

Greetings,

Below we explain how you can replace a vacuum cleaner belt on the Kirby Generation upright vacuum cleaner. All you will need to perform this repair is a new Kirby Generation Upright Belt, and some time. No tools are needed to perform this repair. This repair is the same for all Kirby Generation models including: G3, G4, G5, G6, Ultimate G, Kirby Diamond Edition, and the Kirby Sentria. The repair procedures have to be followed exactly in order for the vacuum to work properly. This should be done at least once a year even if the belt doesn't break, because these belts will stretch out over that year time period and will not work as well as a new belt would.

This will walk you through step by step on how to replace the belt (the rubber part) on all Kirby Generation uprights (including your Ultimate G). Also it will show you how to do basic maintenance on the brush while you have it out.

Hi, I'm Jon IO used to sell these machines and I also own an Ultimate G, And sounds like to me it's a loose or broken transmission belt, I think you should have your local Kirby dealer take a look at it or even a good quality vacuum shop will be able to look at it.
