Hi! i have the same problem but i already resolved my issue!..
i also cant change my display image in yahoo messanger!..
i tried so many things to solved this issue but doesnt work!..
so i decided to do this steps:
- first you need to log-out Yahoo Messanger
- on the right lower part of the window, right-click yahoo logo then choose Exit
- open My Coputer
- go to C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\Profiles
- then look for your Yahoo ID folder
- delete that folder permanently by using Shift + Delete
- then restart your computer
- now open YM then log-in your account
- try to change your display image
- browse the picture you want to display
- then poooffff!!! hehehe...

Go to your 360 page at http://360.yahoo.com , and upload a .jpg picture, mark it as primary, then go to "My Profile" / "Edit My Info" in Answers. and select the picture.

Also you can open an Instant Message box with anyone, then go to the top and click on VIEW then click on MY DISPLAY/ IMAGE OPTIONS, then click on CHOOSE A PICTURE. It will then permit you to choose from the pictures on your computer. If you have none on your hard drive, it offers an avitar icon you can use. You can use the same steps when you want to change the picture. Just the last step would be change my picture..

oh i can fix yah !!!!!!!!!!!!!! just go to the c:/ dir and click program files and click the messenger dir and you can see there the uninstaller !!!!!!!!!!! and if you are now uninstall the program and then go to the yahoo website and download the latest ym program ///////////the problem is there might be a corrupted files

try uninstalling all the yahoo messenger in your computer then restart the computer..then try installing the new yahoo messenger the 9.1 i think i forgot but its the new one...now if it srill doesnt work try calling yahoo messenger...

We need to uninstoll it then reinstall it.
1.- clck START
2.- click SETTINGS
3.- click CONTROL PANEL
4.- select ADD IREMOVE
5.- LOOK FOR MESSENGER 9
6.- SELECT REMOVE
it may ask you if you sure say YES
when is all gone.
RESTART your computer and go to msn.com try to install it again be patient don't open any windows or games it will take few min but will be better.
