I am pretty sure that is a very old microwave...for example it was original equipment on a 2005 Recreational Vehicle.

I am assuming you have been using that exact microwave for many years, so you are familiar with its use.

If it is constantly displaying "3.5" as you say and someone has not just partially input a Time and forgotten to Cancel the Input then it sounds like a printed circuit has gone bad...

Testimonial: "Thanks, Stan. It’s old. But new to me (in my used RV). It happened when I was cooking popcorn and pulled the door open before it finished a timed run. I didn’t reset or clear the cook time. Next morning it was unresponsive. I unplugged it a couple of times. Same problem. 3.5 and then 2:00 minutes of cooking. One time it acted like it was back working but it didn’t last. Thanks for your help!"

SOURCE: vent fan high comes on automatically with cooking

Right, that would be MCO10UW and the owner's manual is here.

The owner's manual does say this, of course,

"To prevent overheating from taking place, the exhaust
fan is designed to automatically turn on at a low speed if
excessive temperatures occur. Should this happen, the
fan cannot be manually turned off, but it will
automatically turn off when the internal parts have
cooled. The fan may stay on for up to an hour after the
range and microwave oven controls have been turned
off."

That;'s standard on microwaves.

But these models do have a separate internal cooling fan (which should run any time you microwave) plus the hood vent exhaust fan, which should only run when you select it, or if there is an excessive stovetop or under-hood temperature.

So if it comes on whenever you microwave, that is incorrect.

When that happens, it's usually a defective vent thermal switch (a.k.a. hood TCO).

But since it's brand new, I would certainly contact Magic Chef about this. If it's in need of repair, they will fix it free, assuming the oven wasn't physically damaged.

you have one of three problems (H.V. diode shorted or leaky, H.V.capicitor shorted, or the magnrtron tube is beginning to draw excessive current)if thats the case its not usually worth spending that for the mag.,the other two items aren't that expensive

Hi I'm Anthoney How do I set the cocking power of my magic chef MCB1110w microwave oven?

Press the Power button several times until the desired power level is reached. Each press of the Power button will reduce the power level by 10%. Using 40% power requires pressing the Power keypad 7 times. After setting the power level, then you can enter the cooking time by pressing the number buttons. Then press Start.

This is shown in the manual which is available at Manuals Lib, https://www.manualslib.com/products/Magic-Chef-Mcb1110w-272833.html . See page 8 to see the positions of the Power keypad; it's to the left of the number keys. Page 9 has a chart with the power level per press of the Power button. See page 12 for the single stage cooking procedure.

I hope this helps.

Magic chef mco160s microwave control panel not working

That would be a defective membrane keypad.

If it's still available, and you or someone you know might want to replace it, here's a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag in or on the microwave here.

MCO160 microwave and cook vent appliance problem--there was a power surge and now only the light works--is there a reset button?

no reset button. if you are getting lights that means you are getting power and all your fuses are good. you may have a bad control board caused by the surge

Ours magic chef 900W MCD990ARB completely stopped. We have it in our camper and everything on that end is fine. Checked the micro in a different outlet, still no go. Any suggestions?

Well if you are lucky it is an internal fuse. Open it up and look somewhere near where the cord comes into the unit. If it is not the fuse then I suggest you replace the whole thing.
I recently was attempting to repair one. The part cost $93, a new microwave costs that or less.

TURNTABLE AND LIGHT NOT WORKING

It will cook entirely different ... you will want to turn the food occasionally to assure complete cooking.

You probably have a burned out lamp ... look inside for an access panel. If none, you will have to remove the cover. There are probably 8 to 10 screws and they may be Torx - Torx is a star shape, available at auto parts store of Sears (K-mart).

Once inside - DO NOT TOUCH THE SILVER CAN - LETHAL.

Find the lamp, check it out. If burned, get a replacement at your hardware or appliance store or maybe at a Big Box store.

I hope this helps you.

The Display on my microwave says "LOCKED"

The control lock shuts down the control panel pads to avoid unintended use of the microwave oven. To unlock/lock control, the microwave must be in standby mode, touch and hold stop/clear for 3 seconds until one long tone sounds and the display clears to show an outline if the display area. Repeat to unlock control, and return display to the time of day, if any pad is touched while the control is locked, there will be no response from the microwave oven. hope this helps.

Oven turns off

Hi,

You are running the risk of damaging the Magnatron by doing this.

Check the packets you are using, you will have to reduce your power output.

This is because microwaves act by being absorbed by water. There is very little in popcorn and in fat. Once this has been evaporated, the microwave energy builds up (as it is still being produced - but not absorbed), and ends up cooking the magnatron itself.

I have seen countless posts on here after cooking popcorn!

More fun on the hob anyway - and cheaper to buy in bulk!

Cook time button problems

The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a few minutes, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

Please reply back here and let us know if the hard reset doesn't fix it.

It may have a bad door switch, and we can help you check into that. The first test for that is to try it while gently lifting up and then while gently pushing down on the door.

If you don't have your owner's manual, you can download it here:
