Do the top buttons still work even without the backlight? or are they not functional as well.
One of the more common issues I have seen that can cause that is the sound-deadening insulation in the door (which is rubber-like) will sometimes get the wires stuck in it and as the door is opened and closed they will stretch and break. It may be worth checking in the door to see if you have any broken or segmented wires.
Testimonial: "The buttons do work. They beep when pressed and the dishwasher seems to acknowledge them being pressed, there's just no visual feedback. I'll look into the insulation/wire possibility, thanks!"

ok under the bottom kick-plate you will find a tech sheet first id start with where my power comes in under the kick plate second remove the front panel and check the door switches third check the control for a fuse or burned wires resistors etc refer to the tech sheet but it sounds to me like a power problem

Some of the LG LDS5811 had problems with the wiring harness in the door panel. This is nothing to mess with unless you have disconnected the DW from power.
You can open the door panel by removing the screws around the inside edge of the DW. Or, better yet, firmly but politely contact LG service and tell them you are aware of LDS5811 dishwashers having these symptoms being caused by _melting_ wires in inside the door panel. This is true and even if the DW is out of warranty, LG should fix this problem at no cost to you.
Good Luck!

Mine was doing this for a while and now is completely black all the
time. I have a thought as to what this might be... I believe the
problem is not the lamp or light engine but rather one of the brushless
fans failing. This causes the tv to shut down as a safety measure
because of the inability to purge the heat that would build up VERY
QUICKLY and warp, damage and destroy everything else. I believe the
problem being intermittent at first is due to the fan performing a
"death rattle". The fan itself could be fine and more of an indirect
problem. I believe the wiring coming out of the fan is inadequately
insulated against the heat generated. It begins to cook, crack and
eventually fail.
The good news? If it is the fan they cost about $15 and can be
purchased on the internet. Nothing special about them. You would want
to make sure it has the same leads coming out of the fan to facilitate
the changeout. Again, I haven't attempted to install a new fan on mine
yet but it will be the first thing I try.
If any of you attempt this before I do, please post your resulting
experience for the rest of us. I will do the same. Good luck.

Since there is no category for the LG LDF7932 model, I uploaded the manual for this model in the LDF 7811 section.
Scroll to the top here and click on the link that says LDF 7811 and then scroll down to the manual section. It may take 24 hours for the manual I uploaded to be placed there to be reviewed by FixYa management.
Good Luck!
Hello Loucinda Stanley - Try resetting the dishwasher by unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker off. Wait approximately ten minutes and restart unit. Select a normal cycle let it run and then the indicator light should display at the end of the cycle. If it proves to be ineffective, connect with a professional to accurately pinpoint any potentially more serious issues.
