The easiest solution would be to call your local Aerus/ Electrolux representative, because the corporation doesnt publish diagrams.

SOURCE: Kenmore vacuum manuals

I tried what reddevil6 suggested and was not able to get Sears to produce a manual. I would prefer an online manual but at this point I'm desperate enough to try anything.

Beater bar turning on and off. Why doesn't the vacuum?

Try wiggling the wire and where the hose swivels to attempt to determine where it may be shorting out. It could be the wire or the plugs where the wires connect if your model has them. Inspect these areas closely to find your short.

How do I disassemble a Canister Vac Model 116.21714. extension wand ?

Sadly, there does not seem to be much help available for this. Sears wants $100++ another $30-40 shipping to have UPS take it and may be fix it. If you do not want to pay the fees, you will still have to pay $50 to get it back. Sears service shops will not fix vacuums. What the heck?!

The powerhead on our kenmore progressive canister vac (model 116.25615506) turns on and off as the yolk handle is raised and lowered. what is the most likely cause and is it repairable? thanks,

Wires (pins) are burned in the handle connection, usually the top section by the switch, unhook from the metal wand and inspect the connection, look for black sooty looking pin holes or pins, check both sides. This means the pins have burned slightly and now have a loose connection with little or no continuity. Very common, you will need to repair with a wire Kit or have a professional do it. Horrible design flaw been going on for years with these types of vacuums.....ACE

Power nozzle shuts on and off

HI There, When a Kenmore power nozzle cuts on and off, this usually indicates that your electrical hose has gone bad and has a short circuit somewhere. You can try and troubleshoot the hose to find out where the short is by trying to determine what position the hose is in when it cuts on and off, and try to isolate the short circuit by spinning the hose on both the end that plugs into the canister, as well as the end that plugs into the wand. Sometimes the short is in the wands, or even the swivel neck assembly on the power nozzle where the wands connect. I would say 9 times out of 10 though on Kenmore canisters, the problem is in the hose. Kenmore is actually manufactured by Panasonic, and the two brands use a lot of the same identical parts, including the electrical hose (most cases). If your Kenmore has a two position switch, with a setting for floors and carpets, then here's a link to the corresponding Panasonic hose that you can buy. The Panasonic hoses are a little more expensive then Kenmore, but the huge benefit is that they come 100% completely assembled, where as the Kenmore hose has to be assembled (which is extremely difficult even for me to do). Panasonic 3 Wire Electrical Suction Hose To Fit Kenmore Canisters On just a handful of Kenmore models, an additional modification has to be done with the internal switch. Kenmore must have had the hose modified so you'd have to buy the genuine Kenmore part, but luckily simply switching two wires on the switch will allow the Panasonic hose to work. Try just plugging in the hose into the vacuum first, and if it still doesn't work properly, then you can modify the switch. If you find that the short is in the wand or swivel neck, just use the comment field on this repair page and let me know, I'll be happy to follow up and walk you through either of these repairs as well. If this was helpful to you, please be so kind and rate the repair, or leave some feedback for me. This is greatly appreciated. Chris Jones GoVacuum.com

Loose electrical contact in extension wand

You have a loose connection at one of several possible locations.Inspect the contacts at the top and bottom of the wand .IF they are black or coppery or look melted, both pairs of contacts, male and female will need to be replaced.
Try to wiggle and twist the wand at top, then at bottom. If this does not reveal the short, work your way back down the hose towards the a vac itself, starting behind the hose handle.
