SOURCE: Blakeslee (Kenwood) A717 mixer speed control

I had the same problem. Had to strip the machine down to get to the motor. On the top is a moving plate with various capacitors etc mounted. On the front side there was a Capacitor (At least I think it was) with the wire broken.
I resoldered it and the machine now works fine.

I hope this helps

SOURCE: item: kenwood chef km201 Problem:

Hi,

How old is the machine?

The leaking comes from the lower gearbox assembly, ther are two kind of gearbox. There are two kind of vertical drive shaft, 14mm and 12,7mm that goes through the gearbox.

You can try to replace the grease, make sure that is vegetable grease.

SOURCE: kenwood chef A701A mixer not working but blender

could be one of three things
1) the belt is broken to the main gearbox (fairly easy to replace if you can get one)
2) a gear has slipped or broken which means none of the front end will operate.(I have this problem and cannot get the gear body to open)
3) If the top and front worms are turning then the problem is with the planetary gear which again is fairly easy to replace

Kenwood Chef KM400 motor speed is too slow

A failed SCR or triac will not always show visually any sign of failure. Chances are good that is all that is wrong. If mixer had been plugged in when it got wet, that is all it takes. Also check the transient voltage supressors if the chef has them. They would be identified on the circuit board. as TVS or MOV along with a number. Only number to use is the one on the component.

If you can find ratings for the old devices, just matching the basic ratings should do. Just guessing, but the SCRs should be 20 amp and 400 volt, If the old ones are a lower rating than my guess, there is no problem with using the higher ratings, if my guess is low, go with the original's ratings. Manufacturer of device does not matter as long as ratings are at least comparable.

My mixer was working fine until yesterday. When I turn on the lowest turn speed it'll start off slow for about two seconds then start to climb up to the highest speed without me touching the handle!

There is a problem with one of the speed control systems. It could be a control plate, a phase board or governor assembly. This is a common problem. Without actually seeing the machine in action and testing it myself I can't tell you exactly where the problem lies or which parts to repair. I would recommend taking it to an authorized repair center to have it looked at or testing the parts yourself if you have the knowledge to do so.

Our K5SS 300 watt mixer (30-40 years old) does not have a really slow speed anymore. We used it with the vegetable grinder accessory and when we were done it would not go slow on the slow speed. It went as...

the speed setting is in the speed control unit which by your statement is now broken
no parts around for the lovely old reliable machine which is now close to junk
take it to an appliance repair shop as they may have spare from another machine or can repair the fault

KitchenAid K5SS mixer speeds up beyond set speed.

I have the same mixer and I believe your problem is the governor that is on the back of the motor. You can figure it out by downloading the repair manual here:http://store.mendingshed.com/kitaidparts.html The manual has all the info you need; including a troubleshooting section. The governor is availible from the the same site here:http://store.mendingshed.com/kagovernor.html What tipped me off on my K5SS was looking at the governor as it ran and I could see it moving back and forth; not steady like it should. Good luck!
