Most likely the edge lighting has gone bad in that area. It may be fixable at a TV shop, but will probably cost as much as a new TV. Take it to GEEK Squad at a Best Buy for a quick diagnosis. Then if it cannot be fixed for a reasonable price, they will recycle it for you and you can look for a new TV.

this symptom, sometimes called the tube light effect, it is characterised by a bright thin horizontal line across the middle of the screen. this symptom is caused by a breakdown in the vertical deflection circuit. hence maybe the trouble maybe in the vertical oscillator, amplifier or output circuits. but if all i have said is not clear to you, better bring it to a qualified tv technician. good luck!

On the KDFE55A20 this sounds like a bad Q-Box. I would get an estimate from a Sony authorized servicer as this part may be quite expensive. On the 55A10 model this may be the B-Block and is also quite expensive. Getting an on-sit estimate would be the first step I suggest. Again go with an authorized Sony servicer. Call Sony or go to Sony.com for customer service. Good Luck

Hi, Depeending on the thickness of the lines matters. If the lines are Black and about 1-2 inches thick it may be a bad bottom buffer board or a bad panel (screen).
If the lines are thin 1/16 to 1/8 inch it is most likely a bad panel.
You can open up the set and depending on the model, see the thin board/boards running across the bottom with ribbon cables going to the panel. You may be able to attempt reseating the ribbon cables, but be careful as some retainer plugs break very easy.
If the lines are thick black and the reseating doesn't correct it you may be able to buy the coresponding buffer. Unfortunately some bottom buffers are actually part of the panel. If you are not comfortable taking it apart then call a professional but be aware labor charges start around $200 not counting parts, panels start at $600 up to over $1000
hope this helps
Thanks
Eric

There is no invertor board on a plasma tv. The fault is the X address buffer board. This is located on the bottom of the screen and runs horizontally the whole width of the screen. If you remove the heatsink plate that covers the x address boards and you need to look at the screen ribbon at the same position as where the bar is (in the middle).Vary gently lift the Xbuffer ribbon lock and gently take out the ribbon.Clean the contacts very carefully with a fibre pen or an electrical cleaning fluid.Insert ribbon back and heatsink and check. Here is a picture of the board and ribbon
a 1 inch bar is associates with 1 ribbon fault. So if the bar was 3 inches in from the left of the screen, the faulty ribbon will be 3 inches in from the right working from behind the TV. If cleaning dont cure the fault, then the Buffer IC will be blown and order a new centre buffer board (you can buy off Ebay)
