I have horizontal lines on my Vizio TV; they are always there on all inputs, they go over the menu screens. The lines are black but you can see colors in them as well, best seen with white backgrounds. They are at the top of the screen. It is a Vizio M701d-A3R model

These beasts are monsters to get into and service without the proper extenstion cables and a service manual. there are no user replaceable parts inside this set. if you know solid state serviceing, you can try and fix it. There is a bad capacitor or capacitors in the vertical sweep circuit and or the vertical output IC is bad also. If you can solder and unsolder go for it. But if you do not or know how the circuit Works Please find a trained tech to assist you with this repair. Good Luck. PS please do not forget to rate this.

Vertical hold circuit is failing.
Check capicitor in vertical hold circuit. You should have solid knowledge of electronics repair before attemping repair. TV's can emmit harmful radiation, and produce voltages up to or in excess of 30kV.

It's possible that the motherboard or the controller board for the screen is defective. At this point, I would use the warranty from Vizio. It should be no doubt that it covered. Here's the info you will need from the Vizio web site.

Your symptom sounds like a faulty capacitor in the vertical deflection circuit.
What you are seeing is called vertical fold-over.
If you want to fix this yourself and are handy with a soldering iron, it is not that difficult. Just look for a 1uf capacitor near the vertical IC. The vertical IC will be a black IC with straight legs mounted to a heat sink, generally in the center of the circuit board.
Note: Be careful when working on a television as the CRT and other capacitors can hold a charge that can be very dangerous.
I would recommend that you contact a local service center and see if you can get a quote for the repair. I would normally charge between $120.00-130.00 for this type of repair. The cost may vary depending on where you are located.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.
