I have an older maytag dryer and there are no accesible screws to remove the front panel. Is there any way I can get disassembly instructions for my particular model?

On my old Maytag Neptune you take off the door. Then take off the reversible door tabs on the other side. That allows you to pull the front panel from the top and lift off the bottom. That gives access to the blower heat below and top locking screws and hold down tabs. Make sure you are unplugged before working on it.

How old we talking? What model? Mine opens on a bottom panel in the front.

Testimonial: "There are no screws on the front or side of the unit that would help me take the front panel off the frame."

SOURCE: How to remove a back panel of maytag neptune dryer?

You have a choice for which side front door should be on this model. There are 4 screws on front door. Take all 4 screws and pull down the front panel. You will see two metal parts each side which holds top panel. Remove two screws and metal parts. Now you can push up the top panel.

SOURCE: How to remove a back panel of maytag neptune dryer?

Catriver was right on the mark. Took a little bit of doing but I was able to fix the problem myself within 30 mins, and saved some money. Many thanks. I'd like to expand Catriver's solution a bit.

I found a layer of lint on the inside bottom of my dryer. With the face off of the dryer, it proved to be a good time to vacuum the lint out and reduce the potential of fire.

SOURCE: How to disassemble Maytag Washer MTW5740TQ0

Your console has a retaining clip under the front corner on each side. You simply insert a putty knife under the console at the corner and push straight back, while pushing the console back with your other hand. The clip will release and the console will pop up. You can use the following link for reference (step 2 b.):

http://www.fixya.com/support/r599953-replacing_drive_motor_kenmore_or

Your washer has the Maytag name, but is manufactured by Whirlpool and has Whirlpool parts, so these steps are for your washer. The link I provided explains how to access and remove the drive motor. If you are having problems with agitation and spin, you may have bad motor coupling. The next explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385252-replacing_motor_coupling_whirlpool_top

The steps are almost identical and the part number (if needed) is included.

You can view an excellent exploded view diagram of your washer at appliancepartspros.com. Section 4 shoes the console and retaining clips (item 3) that I'm talking about.

If your washer fills, then stops, or agitates then stops just before the rinse cycle, this problem is attributed to a lid switch malfunction.

I'm adding all these remarks, because you never stated what symptoms you were experiencing. If you have questions, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

SOURCE: how to remove the front panel of a maytag neptune gas dryer

Removal of the front panel requires the removal of the top cover and the console. Disconnect power to the dryer prior to servicing to avoid the risk of electric shock.

Remove the 2 screws attaching the top cover to the rear of the dryer then slide it rearward to clear the screw head from the top cover flange and lift the cover off the dryer cabinet.

Remove the screws securing the heater PCB board and disconnect the black and white wiring harness connectors from the board.

Remove the four screws attaching the console to the washer cabinet and rotate the console down to remove it from the dryer.

Remove the four screws attaching the top of the front panel to the cabinet and the two screws at the bottom of the door opening.

Pull the front panel forward and disconnect the interior light wiring harness then lift the front panel off the tabs across the bottom and move it away from the dryer.

Reinstall the front panel, the console, and the top cover in reverse of the removal steps.

Belt came of dyer where does it go

Most maytag dryers you cannot work from the back side. The old style dryer is accesed by removing phillips screws at the base of the dryer. The newer models use a putty knife to realease the top. Some models called slopefronts you remove the door and then the front to get to the innards.
I have a page on maytag dryers which features videos and service manuals. MAYTAG DRYER PAGE

Mdg9700 need to remove front cover, which does NOT match normal maytag type bottom held by clips not screws, first look is that control panel needs to remove first but if so these are concealed.

The top panel and the control panel need to be removed first before the front panel can be removed. Once the top panel is off, the screws attaching the control panel to the dryer cabinet are exposed. The screws securing the front panel to the dryer cabinet are exposed once the control panel is removed.

Disconnect power and remove the two screws attaching the top panel to the rear of the dryer.

How do I get the top off

The front panel needs to be removed first before the top panel can be lifted. This is due to the top panel hold down brackets hidden behind the front panel posts. Disconnect power to the dryer prior to servicing to avoid the risk of electric shock.

Open the dryer door and remove the four screws located vertically along the inside lip of the door opening. These screws hold the front panel to the front shroud assembly. Once the four screws are removed, grasp and press in on the upper edges of the front panel posts then twist it inward to release the clips holding it to the cabinet. Tilt the top of the front panel and move it away from the dryer.

The top cover is held on each side of the cabinet by two hold down brackets. Locate and remove the 5/16" hex-head screws holding each bracket then swing the bracket to the outside and unhook it from the slot in the top cover lip.

Open the door then lift the front of the top cover and tilt it toward the rear of the dryer. Reinstall the top cover and the front panel by following the removal steps in reverse order. Click on the link below for more detailed disassembly procedure.

The on line instruction for replacing Maytag dryer belts say " insert a flat screw driver under the top panel and it will come off. Problem is: on my older model, there are two large metal screws...

My 1955 edition of the Maytag top popped off because it used the spring clamps you refer to. If there are screws there, you will have to remove them. Once the top is up, you will see how to remove the front. If you can get this far, the rest of the job will become self evident (I think) .If you need more help, let me know

Maytag front load dryer thumps while turning, empty, full etc.

If your Maytag is like my Maytag, there are two screws at the two bottom corners of the front panel. Once you remove both screws the front panel will lift out, up, and off. Then you can see what is going on inside.

Remove front panel of maytag MDG7400Aww gas dryer

You have to remove the front panel first to access the clip that holds the front of the top down. Instructions:

crosstip medium screwdriver
1/4 inch socket
5/15 inch socket
  1. UNPLUG DRYER
  2. TURN OFF GAS
  3. Disassemble by taking apart the FRONT of the dryer:

    a. Remove the door and opposite side door plugs (crosstip screws)

    b. Remove the front panel - this exposes sheet metal bolts (5/16 inch) some with crosstip on left and right of unit. Set panel aside (right side) WITHOUT unplugging wires

    c. Unscrew all the exposed bolts.

    d. Top bolts left and right secure the unpainted metal hooks which secures the top of dryer. Unscrew these bolts and wiggle the metal retainer hooks off. Lift top and support to create 6 inch gap in the front (top unit hinges in back and has electrical connections - do NOT disconnect wires)

    e. Release belt from pulley by reaching left and under drum (this is out of sight)

    f. gently lift out drum and belt and set aside
  4. This has exposed the interior.
