The cyan ink does not print. I have washed out the printhead with hot water and a little detergent, then rinsed it out, reinstalled the cartridges and tried again. No help.It may be a printhead. I have replaced the printhead once before because a color (probably cyan) didn't print.I use liquid ink from Ink-Etc. to refill the cartridges but don't allow them to run dry.Other than this problem, I love the printer. I have had it for several years and it has seen a lot of use. I have saved more than the cost of the printer by using liquid ink instead of buying new cartridges.
Have you had a paper jam recently? My only thought might be that a small piece of paper is stuck where the cyan cartridge prints.
Maybe get an air duster spray can, remove all inks and spray inside.

The following may work: remove all the ink supplies. Remove the printhead and soak it for about 5 minutes in 0.5" of very hot water. Gently blot the printhead on a soft damp paper towel to remove the excess water, then replace in the printer and then reinstall the ink supplies.
This sounds like the printhead is clogged with dried ink. To remedy this, you will have to remove the ink cartridges, remove the printhead. Put some warm-hot (not boiling) distilled water in a cereal dish, put the printhead in the dish with the printhead slots in the water. Let soak for a couple of hours and repeat the process. Blot (don't rub) the water off the printhead and set it aside to air dry (you can accelerate this by using a hair dryer on the warm setting). One the printhead is dry, reinsert it and the ink cartridges. This should clear the clogged nozzles.
Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks.
It's going to cost you ink but your may get it working again.
- Remove all ink cartridges
- Remove the printhead itself
- Carefully (avoid splashes!) hold the printhead under running warm water until the water runs fairly clear
- In a bowl large enough for the printhead, put about 1-1 1/2" (25-40mm) of household plain or 'sudsy' ammonia
- Set the printhead in the ammonia and ignore overnight
- Repeat the water cleaning
- Shake out as much of the water and you can, then allow it to dry for at least 24 hours
- Reinstall printhead in printer
I have better results starting with fresh ink cartridges but have had to use a removed one now and then.
This is one of the printers that does not object to frequent use but will clog if allowed to sit too long between operations.
If your memory is better than mine, do one of the print tests every couple of days.
Check the cleaning pad underneath where the heads park. Center the heads and remove the pad (wear rubber gloves--really messy!!!). Wash it out in detergent and hot water, rinse, and allow to dry out. Reinstall and try the head cleaning routine again. If still unsuccessful, replace the cartridge.
# Hold the cartridge upside down, with the bar-code label facing you and take a damp paper towel. # Use the towel to wipe the printhead of the cartridge on the bottom (where the ink comes out). Wipe the printhead horizontally in one direction only (left to right). # Continue doing this until it looks clean. # Then dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure the ink is flowing. # Next, look inside the printer and locate the carrier that holds ink cartridges. Caution: Make sure the cartridges are not installed at this point.
1. Look for a shiny piece of metal underneath the contacts at the back of the carrier. 2. Take a damp cotton swab (use water only!) and wipe along the bottom of the shiny metal piece. Note: You may need more than one swab.
# Reinstall the cartridges, making sure you snap them correctly into the printer.
I read earlier that black and magenta were printing but not cyan or yellow.....HP says to gently wipe the side of the electronic band but not the bottom, I did all of the above...and the printheads carefully, no change w/ the printout from "clean printheads"...the cyan had an occasional blue line(very fine) and there was no yellow.
So I trickled warm water over the cyan and yellow printheads....then thought what the heck, got a bowl of warm water and swished the printheads half submerged. They print perfect now I have the reds, yellows, greens and all the colors back w/ the clean printhead option and printed a coupon, it was perfect.
I hope it's not a short term fix...I developed the problem when I didn't print for a long time, hope this helps someone, Cyn
BTW, I flashed a light down in the recepticle for the cyan and yellow printheads and they were gunky w/ blue and yellow gook, so I clean that out w/ a damp lint free rag....paper towels shredded and I had to carefully remove the remnants.
If your printer still can print but with no cyan color then you most likely have a bad printhed. If your cyan ink is not melting it's because it is not using any ink . Get into the "print quality" menu and print the test page. If you get black, yellow, and magenta but little or no cyan then your printhead is bad. Whith these machines cyan is the first color to have poblems starting with weak or missing jets.
You can try to run the "eliminate light stripes" to see if it will help.
Run it about 3 to 5 times. If still not working right, turn the printer off for at least 4 hours and then test again.
Try taking a damp cloth and dabbing it against the printhead nozzels until you get lines forming on the rage from the ink (the nozzels you're having trouble with specifically).
Well if you want to damage your printer use alcohol. But if you want to make it work then pull the cartridge from the printer and run hot water on a couple of paper towels leaving alot of hot water in the towels. Put some thing under them to keep them from staining your counter top and then set the cartridge down onto the hotwater towel and let the hot water melt away the dry ink and in minutes you may be printing again if this is what it is. Be sure and use a dry paper towel to wipe off the ecess wet before you reinstall the cartridge.
