SOURCE: Battery Problem

You need to begin using rechargeable batteries immediately. Look for nickle metal hydride (NiMH) cells that are at least 1800 mah and preferrably more than 2000 mah. Get two sets and a charger. Print this and take it with you. You can buy these at any electronics store. You'll need to charge the batteries before you can use them. And they don't really give you full life until they've been charged and discharged a couple of times. In other words, the first few times, you'll get a shorter life cycle before they run down. But you should see a marked improvement almost immediately.

SOURCE: garmin gps 12 wont turn on.

Sorry to hear of the dead units. Are you using the correct power cable with a small hole in the centre of the plug? The GPS 12 is strictly limited to 7 volts only. The accessory cigarette lighter cable for this model has a circuit inside to drop the voltage from 12 to 7. Cannot be fixed. There would have been a plastic peg in the back of the GPS socket to prevent anything but the correct voltage Garmin cable being plugged in. Unfortunately these pegs are easily broken off. Yes, they are a good little unit even though well on in years. The next model up - the 12XL - can accept a wide voltage range and does not have the plastic peg.

All the best, Tony at KiwiGPS.

Where can I find a replacement Humminbird VHF55S ALKALINE BATTERY PACK

Question edited for clarity, no 'g' in Humminbird.
Question moved from Cameras category.

This radio takes 6 standard AA Duracell Alkaline or 6 NiMH batteries which can be put and charged in the rechargeable pack, but they are still just 6 x AA batteries. Buy Sanyo Eneloop on Amazon. They are by far the best.

Does not power up .battery apearstobecharged cables look ok

You may need to removed the power cable and jumper cord that is connected to the unit threw the base that is in the portable case. Once you removed these from the base, try plugging it directly into the back of your unit and turn on again to see if this corrects the problem. If so, the power cable was not plugged securely into the jumper cord that was in the base. It has to be securely plugged into the jumper cable to send the power to the unit.

My HUMMINBIRD ADVANCED RSS will not turn on even with a change of baterry. Any help? Thanks

I work at Cabela's in the Boating/Marine Department, and have had many many many complaints on these units and their inability to turn on, keep running, and in some instances...not turn off. My advice with this is to;
A. Return it where you bought it from and get a Refund
B. If you cant return it, contact humminbird directly...they should be well aware of the problem, and can work through a solution.

These are the common problems with these units. The only Portable Units Humminbird makes that are of a quality design are the 500 Series Portables. Only problem is your gonna pay the price of a full unit.

Hope this helps.

Hi guys, i bought one a year ago, and just got it

Hi!
If your 220 is in portable configuration (runs on 8 'AA' batteries) make sure that the batteries are 1.5 volts and not 1.2 or 1.3 volts. (1.2V times 8 batteries is only 9.6V)
Also check the battery compartment as we see leakage from some batteries which corrodes the connector plates that the batteries hook up to.
One more thing...check to see that the power cord is plugged into the unit with the notch in the plug pointing UP. The rubber plug housing on the sounder allows the cord to be plugged in backwards if it's forced a litlle bit.
Best of luck!

Sorry to say it sounds like you will need to replace the screen assembly which is about a $70 repair or so.

Humminbird 343c will power down on its own

Hi!
If the unit shuts off on its own, firstly check your power supply. I keep seeing customers running their ssounders from a small, portable battery configuration that doesn't put out the correct voltage...mostly seen with AA size batteries being rated at 1.2 or 1.3 volts (8 batteries times 1.2 volts is only 9.6 volts).
If the power supply is not the issue then I would say the internal power circuit is suspect...this can only be repaired by a competent repair person who knows how and what they are doing. If you open the unit up, you'll not only void the warranty, you run the risk of killing the entire unit from static shock.
Best of luck in your repair!

Humminbird 240 won't start

Hi!
If your unit is a portable unit (takes 8 'AA' batteries), make sure that the batteries say 1.5 volts and not 1.2 or 1.3 volts as these won't have the right amount of power.
If not, make sure that the power cable (where it plugs into the sounder) is installed with the small notch pointed towards the top.
Best of luck!
