Amana DLE330RAW dryer won't start without manually spinning the drum, and there might be a burning smell, even though I checked the heating element and it's clear.

I just replaced a heavily damaged idler pulley and dryer belt because the drum quit spinning. Now the dryer buzzes at me when I try to start it, and getting it started manually produces a smell. Please help :(

Over the years I've found that if it buzzes but will only start when you "assist"it, the drive motor is at fault. The hot smell you describe backs that up.. This assumes the idler is ok and the belt is routed correctly. Make sure the belt is on the motor pulley and not riding on the motor shaft. This can happen sometimes if you have to install the belt by feel when you can't see it well . That said, the motor should still start without assistance even with an incorrectly installed belt.
Good luck

SOURCE: serpentine belt slips off idler pulley

The A/C pully is supposed to spin freely until the AC is activated to run.. The cranshaft pully does not. Replace the tensioner pully. The belt has to fit in between the grooves on the pullys.

My amana dry spins but doesnt dry anything

Probably the element. This is a wondermous dryer.
The element is on the left rear wall. The limit mounts on the element making it easy to diagnose heating problems. Pop the lower front panel off by removing the screws at the base. Unplug the machine and carry it outside so you can blow it out.

Put clothes in, set the timer, push the start button and it makes a hum like it is trying to start but does not start and then there is a funny smell coming from the dryer. Is the motor burning/burned up...

it could be the belt slipping, the motor going bad, the motor start cap going out the drum bearing or motor bearings dried out causing over heating of unit causing electrical smell, hard to give a ball-park,anywhere from $50 to $300 for repairs depending parts required and labor/time

Dle330raw not heating.replaced heating element was working on time dry then stopped, replaced thermostate. no heat at all now.

Check your blower, it may not be blowing hot air to your drum..You did not say if it was blowing or not.

I have a Amana DLE330RAW everything works, but it won't heat?

A burned out heating element will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Replace the element if found defective.

Most dryers have a thermal fuse, which burns out when the dryer overheats, in which case the dryer will either not run at all or stop heating. The fuse is usually located on the vent duct, inside the dryer. A blown fuse will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Before replacing the fuse, make sure the blower wheel is not broken or clogged, and there is nothing blocking the venting.

Heating element

What did the original heater look like when you removed it? Was it burned in two? Make sure you are getting air circulation over the heater. Check your lint filter and air exhaust piping. Flapper outside on the exhaust pipe may be sticking.

HEating element

The heating element is located in the bottom left corner. You will need to remove the drum for access. Once you have the drum out of the way, look for a square box with wires attached. There are 10mm fasteners that hold the heating element to the vent. Rome the screws, mark the wires and positions then remove the heating element. Before replacing the element make sure the thermal fuse and the high limit switches are not faulty.
