I have my laptop plugged in using VGA then converted into HDMI.
This is because the TV expects to get sound via HDMI. however, VGA doesn't have a soundoption. So there is no way to get sound over the TV natively.
But the TV Doesn't have a HDMI Port.
do you have an HDMI output on your laptop and a loose 3.5 mm jack plugged into the laptop and TV? If not, please connect a 3.5mm jack in that fashion so it will understand to get the sound from there.
I've connected my laptop to the monitor with the wire and an aux 3.5 Jack. no audio...

HDMI is a video AND audio cable. It carries both at the same time. Typically with a laptop, you have to go into your audio settings and indicate HDMI audio enabled / set ON or whatever your software has. If you use a VGA connection, then you would use a separate audio hookup say from the earphone out on the laptop to the VGA's audio input port on the HDTV. Its all in the settings on the HDMI capable laptop.

on your computer, go into your vga graphics driver and hit properties, set it for dual and hit apply. close the box. then go to the graphics, options, look for dual. make sure the wire is tightly in your tv and computer. switch your tv to vga. it should be lit. then you should see your desktop on your tv screen.
