but leave the battery out, (large)_
run On AC power pack only.
the big batteries, love to fail and worse short out and become a huge power drain.
so we first run all laptops made, with no battery large, see?
is the screen now (no battery) still 100% dead
    no text?
    no logo icon HP
    no prompts.?

Step 1:
disconnect all external devices including battery & AC adapter
Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to discharge any or all static from the PC.
Step 2:
Connect back the battery & AC adapter
press the windows key + B and at the same time press the power button.
This should clear the BIOS (Incase of BIOS issues or interrupted updates)

#1 cause of problems with things like this
    that big battery fails.
    and reloading BIOS is silly. to a fault;
why have them make it worse compounding the problems.>
the screen is dead, work just that hard failure. (first)
if there is power problem in any PC
the last thing ever to do (dont) is to do the HP windows +B BIOS recovery.
    scrambling it. (hardware rules)

if already scrambled the BIOS , sure.

Nothing comes. No screen nothing at all. It only flash once and go off. Only the fan spin then it stops

    the PC has power problems.
first off , did lose the AC power pack?
did you use that? plug in both ends
and run on AC pack with the now bad large battery removed,
The battery is this all time #1 first item to fail. so we test the laptop ,
    no battery
and only AC power pack as our power source
this is very simple to do, takes 1 minutes, work; please do that and report the results. thanks

SOURCE: hp pavilion dv5 wont start. the monitor remains

This unit should still be in warranty. If out of the first year warranty, HP has extended the warranty program for Video issues for a extra year from date of purchase.
Register your unit with HP, if not already and email customer care and log your video issue, ASAP.
I hope this has helped you.

SOURCE: HP Pavilion dv6636nr boot problem

When we talk about laptop won't boot up it is a hardware failure.

First of all, most of the hardware failures that are going to be presented in this article require you to disassemble the laptop and work on its internal components. Because of this, you need the required components to take the laptop apart (such as screwdrivers, etc.) and space, lots of space. If you don't have a workbench, then working on that large table in the living room should do it.

Second of all, you need to be extra careful about ESD (electrostatic discharge). Sure, this is important when working with a desktop system too, but you really shouldn't consider this as some sort of overreaction or waste of time. A few anti-static conductive bags should suffice. These are going to be useful when you take apart components from the laptop and you need a safe place to put them down.

If the laptop does not power on using the batteries, then try to power it using the AC adapter. Pay attention and see whether the LED on the laptop lights up, signaling that the adapter was detected. If yes, then your power jack works. If the notebook still does not power on, disassemble the laptop and remove the batteries. Look first for the CMOS battery and take it out.

Your best bet is that the problem is memory-related. What you need to do is re-seat the memory modules. If there are more than one, then try swapping them between each other and try different slots. Try booting again. If it does not work, then try running with only one module - this way, you can tell whether one is faulty.

Disassemble the laptop and remove the HDD, CD/DVD drives, and the modem and/or wireless card(s). If possible, take out the sound card module (if separate). To minimize the possible causes, you may disconnect the LCD panel as well. Try running this way. If it does boot, then try connecting each connector one at a time, booting up in between to localize the problem.

Good luck and take time to do a hard troubleshooting this trouble is not easy as well. You need to be care full in removing the some parts so that the other will not affected and being damaged.

No Rob, you aren't running out of options. You just haven't diagnosed far enough, because you don't know the path.........hence where I come in.........

Using the HP Pavilion dv6000 series, and Pavilion dv9000 series of Notebook PC's, as an example,

There are two Power MOSFET's being used.
The Fairchild Semiconductor Industries - FDS6679 - Power MOSFET, and the Alpha & Omega Semiconductor LTD - AO4407 Power MOSFET.

Both of these P.MOSFET's are Obsolete. However there are cross reference examples given. Let's look at two of these examples, and also note the cost,

My hp pavilion dv6000 does not turn on power button just blinks and goes back off

For this problem, I'd check to see if are you getting the correct voltage out of your power adapter? It should be about 18v.
Try turning it on with the battery and without the battery.
If the computer has been working, it could be that the battery is dead and the DC jack that passes power from the adapter to the computer is loose. Try wiggling is a little and see if the power light comes on.
I think that the problem is you are not getting power to the system and this is why you get a brief flash and nothing else.

Alright, not sure if this will help, by my understanding is that you are saying that when you power the computer using the power supply adapter, nothing comes on? Then when you have your battery installed on, then there are lights blinking from your battery charger LED amount of times. In this case there are no promblem with your laptop and it is your power supply adapter that is damaged and will need to be replaced. It is not charging the battery. The battery is still good, but does not have enought charge to power up your system. You can find a charger on ebay for a good reasonable price compare to getting it from Hp. I hope this can help you.

My HP Pavilion Entertainment Laptop won't turn on. The power indicator light blinks briefly when I press the power button, but it does not boot up.

Does the power indicator lit permenantly? If it glows for a short time and then goes off, then it is due to a faulty component on the motherboard and u have nothing to do if you are not a laptop technician. Make a reply for this.
