that's how it's supposed to operate, switch on turns the unit on. switch off turns the unit off. thier is a wire that is connected to the leads on each outlet that turns the unit on when the hose is inserted and the switch is in the off position.
You have either tripped a breaker at the breaker panel, or you have a short in the vacuum somewhere. Try plugging it in a different outlet in a separate room.
Check that the electrical cord if fully inserted in the
wall outlet. See if the vac has a circuit breaker switch
on the electrical plug called a GCFI,or on the vac itself, which probably has tripped. Good luck.
Hello, It sounds like your vacuum is fine if it works when plugged in the kitchen outlet. It is tripping the breaker switch in the other room because the circuit is overloaded (too many things plugged in this circuit). Try unplugging some things in that room and try your vacuum again. If it only trips when using one particular outlet, then the outlet should be replaced. I would recommend having an electrician check your wiring out.

Have you tried to plug the vaccuum in another outlet that is on another breaker? It could be the vaccuum tripped the breaker. Turn the breaker back on. The manual mentions the thermal protector could have been activated. If this happened it resets and your vac should run after 30 minutes. I have a Widepath Tempo and it has tripped the surge protector. If this is the problem try turning some things off that are also on that breaker/outlet, or unplug them when you use the vac.
http://www.geeksquad.fixya.com/ThreadView.aspx?prdid=40540&thid=564949 Hoover only two years old and it stopped working! Posted by baby_nurse on May 02, 2008 My Hoover self propelled wind tunnel was working great until a couple of days ago when it started shutting on and off while vacuuming. I thought it was the outlet but when I plugged it into two different outlets it did the same thing. Then finally yesterday it just stopped working it won't even turn on when plugged in. I thought it was the switch but it is not. Is it the motor? Has the motor burned out? Do I need to buy a new one? Help!! Hello, I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Hoover U6616-900 Windtunnel Bagless Upright I think you are right, if it is not the switch then it would be the motor. Does it smell bad like a burning smell? If so it is definitely the motor and then @ that point you may want to get an estimate for motor replacement, and keep in mind of what you spent on the vacuum versus what the cost of repair might be. My own rule of thumb is if it cost more than ½ of the price I paid for it then you have to decide – do I want to pay the repaired cost for the vacuum or do I want to purchase a new one. Just a suggestion... You may want to check with your local vac dealer. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions. http://www.hoover.comTelephone Contact our Customer Service Department at 1.330.499.9499 Monday through Friday 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. EST Don – The Vac Man Go Ahead.Use Us.
