SOURCE: whirlpool cabrio error code f51 what does it mean?

Lefty, the code means a rotor position sensor error. The first thing you want to do is see if the basket turns freely by hand. I had one the other day where a dish towell was caught between the basket and tub giving the error. You will have to open the top by using a putty knife and pushing in on the clips on each side. They are strong clips so you have to use some force. The whole top will lift up. Next you will have to remove the tub ring. It just snaps off. If you don't find anything between them, then I would suspect the rotor sensor itself. At the factory they sprayed a protective coating on them and sometimes this causes the problem. You would have to tip the washer back. The motor cover comes off witha allen head, just pulls down. Now there is 4 screws that hold the motor in place. Once you drop them, the plastic cover protector will come down along with the motor so observe carefully where it mounts back up. The motor connector will be the 3 pronged harness on the right side of the motor. The rotor position sensor will be on the left. Snap the positon sensor in and out about 8 or 9 times to get the coating off. If this doesn't work, and you keep getting the error, you will have to order the position sensor. I have had to order the harness as well in some cases. Catriver.

A F51 error is cause by a rotational position sensor failure or RPS. The cause of this is a faulty plug at the sensor that jitters under vibration causing incorrect readings. I have worked on about 50 of these machines and have found a kit which cures the problem. The kit is a retrofit so the lower harness has to be replaced but you will be more peaceful for doing it. For 50.53 depending on where you purchase it you can get kit # W10183157. What I will commit you to is first looking and taking photos as this is class 101. We want to note the connections on the sensor, the stator and the 2 pumps on the bottom. On the console back left and right side and middle is a phillips screw to back out until flush with its frame and then pull forward and flip to expose the mcu. First we will concentrate on the motor control unit and how the harness plugs into the unit. I could not get a photo of the motor control unit so here is how we will id the wires.
To id all the wires being replaced first gain access to the rear of the washer after unplugging the unit. We want to remove the back panel to expose the harness that runs down the left side, user looking into back of unit. On the new harness all wire colors are the same except the updated sensor wiring. This is on the right corner of the mcu and the old wires are all brown and the new is multicolor. For the rest I would unplug one and replace with the new until all are plugged in. The rest is following the process down plugging and unplugging every anchor and most important the clear hose for your pressure switch must be firmly attached as the original clips and all. after you have dressed the back side thread the old and then the new harness through the gap between the black drain hose and the tub. Tuck both under the machine and replace the back panel and clips, one metal at top and the plastic assembly where the drain hose pass through then the back panel if you feel confident it is correct. On the next step we need to access the bottom of the machine to finish our job. After tilting back and making notes on where each wire goes old and new paying note that only one pump has a pull back cover and that a special allen wrench is needed for the bolt holding the rotor on the stator. It is easier if you have a bright light and a pad to lay on. I think a 1/4 inch allen key fits the special bolt. After you remove the rotor, translucent plastic with magnets inside we need to lower the stator. There is 4 5/16 bolts with a metal plate and then the stator will drop and have a grey shield on the back to protect the poles and RPS assembly. Now do the plugs as we did the top. The last anchor on the RPS end of the harness does not half to be inserted until we stretched and compared our work with what we saw on the old harness. Reverse the procedure, Shield, stator with metal washer in and out, holding this in place with the washer is easier with a 1/2 tsp. of heavy grease to stabilize the metal washer on the outside as you try to insert the bolts to hold it together with the shield and inside metal washer. Once these are finger tight inspect the harness for correct anchoring and proper wiring. Tighten these 5/16 bolts like putting a tire on a Honda Civic. Now the rotor goes back on the spline, do not force just turn until it is easy and slips in about a 1/2 inch. It slips in from the magnets and once it does tighten the bolt firmly. Now set the machine down and put into a rinse spin cycle and test it

I work for an appliance repair company and I had a recent service call for the same exact situation on this washer. I also know that Rotary Position Sensor is linked to the F-51 error code. I have found that this is not always the case. On this paticular call the F-51 error code was caused by a piece of clothing (sock, wash cloth, etc.) being stuck or jammed between the internal basket and the outer tub. I removed the cloth and the washer ran fine, so give that a check first before you spend the money.

SOURCE: LD is on my display-nothing will clear it and washer doesnt drain

the ld code means a long drain, what you probably have is something blocking the drain pump.
you can get to the drain pump from the back of the unit and it will be the pump on the left as you face the back.
you will need to remove the hose going into the pump and be ready for water to come out. sorry but you need to check inside the hose as there will be something blocking it. like a coin or some lint or a small sock.
when you get the item out of the hose then it should work again. you do not need to reset the control. once it knows the unit is draining properly it will be ok.

What does an error code F51 on a whirlpool cabrio washer mean?

Cabrio F51 Fault (Stored Fault Code F51) The Cabrio's F51 fault code flashes on the washing machine's display when there is a motor rotor position sensor (RPS) failure.
Check for good contact at the control Board and at the RPS. Sometimes disconnecting and reconnecting the RPS plug connection several times will clean off corrosion that may be affecting the contacts.

Here is an earlier Fixya answer addressing the query:

Whirlpool cabrio error code f51 what does it mean

What does F 51 mean?

The F51 fault code on your Cabrio washer indicates that the control board is not sensing the proper drive motor spin. To clear the fault code, press the Pause/Cancel button.

Make sure that the drain hose is not stuck way down the stand pipe. This can cause siphoning of fill water which will inhibit proper motor rotation.

Check to see if the wash basket spins freely. If it does not, you may have an item of clothing stuck between the outer tub and the inner basket. This restriction in rotation will also cause an F51 fault code.

If these tips do not help you resolve the F51 problem, then you probably have a component failure. Possible failures include: wire harness or wire connection problem between the machine control and the RPS sensor (Rotor Position Sensor), a failed RPS sensor, a failed drive motor, and a failed machine control board.

I have a wtw6600sw2 giving a f-51 code. I replaced rps sensor and harness and control board. Still giving me f-51.Also there is nothing between the tub, tub turns freely.

The F51 error code indicates that the control is not sensing proper motor movement through the signals from the RPS (rotor position sensor) circuit.
This can be caused by several different problems.
Make sure that you are not overloading the washer. Overloading can cause this problem.
A toy or foreign object could be under the washer that is interfering with motor rotation.

With the washer empty, spin the basket inside the washer tub to see if it spins relatively easily.
If not, you could an item caught between the spin basket and the tub.

You could have a wire harness problem causing signals to not be transmitted properly between the RPS and the machine control board.

A failed RPS sensor or a failed control board could also cause this problem.

Cabrio washer

um cant really help other then to reccomned replacing the RPS sensor for a F51code. And as far as i beleive the part comes with a new sensor and attached wiring harness. a little more complicated then any other machine whirlpool has in the market so i probably would suggest you replacing the part yourself.. i wouldnt wanna chance breakin other parts while dismantling the assy.
