Connecting a USB keyboard to my iMac

Adding the keyboard is one thing but without the correct driver, your pc will not be able to recognise it or make it usable. Check in your device list to see if it shows up and whether it is functioning. If not, you need to download the correct driver from the keyboard manufacturer.

Keyboard symbol does not match typeface

the keyboard language you have set does not match the hardware - you have a UK keyboard but US settings for instance. - change the keyboard language in control panel to fix the problem

Cant type backslash

Assume you can't get @ to work properly also.
If so then your Windows is set to the wrong region - probably USA keyboard layout.
Goto Control Panel / Clock Language and Region / Change Location
then check all tabs are for UK (except Admin tab - no need to alter)
UK - or where your PC came from

Change from UK to American keyboard on a Mac (no flag in corner).I need it to use quark. Have tried going into system preferences and clicking on keyboard

Go to system prefernces and select International. I know it makes no sense - you'd expect it to be in the keyboard settings.

Cannot use keyboard at all. Scroll lock is lit though. I have an old bubble box iMac.

Sounds to me like the keyboard is toast. Did you spill something on it? If everything else is cool, then the keyboard is probably done for.

IMac keyboard volume control keys

Do the volume keys still work when you are booted in to OS X?
Also, try reinstalling the Bootcamp drivers that will appear when you insert an OS X disk when it's booted in to Windows.
