SOURCE: No voltage output

It is possible that your voltage regulator is shot but before purchasing the volt regulator try flashing the fields first and make sure the brushes and rings are clean.

SOURCE: no output voltage at all

The generator needs to be 'flashed' to bring back the excitation for output. Is this something you can do? Let me know and I can help you...

if not normal rase it...

SOURCE: no output from my generator

Check the capacitor in the generator head. Will onpen or short cause loss of excitation voltage. Just checked my GENERAC ( no output) and sure enough the cap is shorted.

04 Sportster 1200 tried to start with a car charger all the likghts dash and headlight niticed a red key light but it will not crank over, nor try to respond to start button.

I am unfamiliar with your bike model but it isn't a good idea to use a high performance car type charger on a bike, especially a starter charger - usually it isn't wise to use one with a modern car except when desperate, at least the car has a higher capacity battery that can buffer some of the surplus power.

The little trickle type chargers are ok and the low power types aren't too bad but a so-called rapid charger, high output chargers and especially starter-chargers are the enemy of electronics - the open circuit voltage of a starter-charger can be nearly double the nominal vehicle voltage.

It is possible the bike electronics are damaged - I suggest you remove the battery or at least disconnect it, charge and test it and replace it if it doesn't test good, meanwhile read the bike handbook to discover the meaning of the red key light and how to deal with it.

Generator running but not electrical output, why

generators need a circuit to excite the windings in the alternator as there is no residual magnetism for this to happen
Same as on a car alternator where the battery supplies that power
there will be a small section that generates this power requirement before the full voltage cuts in
as most makes of generators ( invertors excepted) use the same basic schematics you should be able to down load the diagram from the net for your make or from a make the same rating as yours

Battery light is on. i changed the battery and altinator

If the battery light is on, this is an indication tha the generator is not working.
A simple check of the generator is to measure the voltage over the battery in 2 steps. The battery voltage - engine not running = 12VDc
voltage - engine running = around 14.2VDc or defenately higher than the voltage in situation where the engine is not running.

If the generator is is ok the voltage measured over the battery wil increase as a result of charging.

If no increase of voltage - charger defective - or eventually poor cable connections between the charger unit and "the engine".

It will not charge the starter battery.

Do you have a volt meter so that you can check battery output when unit is running. The charge rate on most small engines is about 3 amp so it will not charge very fast. If you have a battery charger I would disconnect negative cable from battery, check voltage on battery then hook up charger for a couple hours. Recheck voltage. Then leave battery neg. cable off overnight and check voltage again the next day.You may have a bad battery that wont hold charge. If it holds charge overnight then I would hook neg. cable back up and leave set for a day or two and recheck voltage. If voltage has dropped then you have something draining battery. Before I did anything to drastic I would clean all connections to battery and starter switch. If your system is really not charging you will have to replace starting diode. Good luck.

Battery does not stay charged on my 20kw generac generator

WAS A 110 VOLT CIRCUIT RAN TO IT FROM THE NORMAL UTILITY POWER OF HOME OR BUILDING IT FEEDS?
NORMALLY THIS IS DONE IN A SEPERATE CONDUIT FOR CONTROL WIRES.AND THE FEEDERS ARE IN ANOTHER CONDUIT.
WITH A DIGITAL TEST METER,CHECK FOR 120 VOLTS AT THE BATTERY CHARGER IN THE GENERATOR CABINET.USUALLY THERE IS A RECEPTICAL TO PLUG THE CHARGER INTO.
IF VOLTAGE IS PRESENT AT THE BATTERY CHARGER AND INDICATOR LIGHTS ARE ON, CHANGE METER TO DC AND CHECK FOR 13.8 VOLTS OUTPUT FROM THE BATTERY CHARGER.IF YOU HAVE OUTPUT VOLTAGE TO THE BATTERY,AND IT IS DEAD,CHANGE THE BATTERY..

HOPE THIS HELPS YOU,BEST OF LUCK.....

When I run my generator - a Yamaha EF2400S to my Zantrex Model MS2000, it will not accept the power to charge my batteries. The generator's voltage and frequency, when checked, are within acceptable...

the power coming from your generator is probably "dirty", full of spikes and surges from the generator. If it accepts shore power and not gen power, then the generator is the most likely cause. If the generator in unregulated, you are stuck, but it could have a failing voltage regulator board, or Yamaha may have a solution.
