Jl Audio 500/1 Car Audio Amplifier Logo

I have an amplifier which keeps blowing fuses, I tested all of the transistors with a multimeter and 2 which are next to each other are reading 0. I don't know what to replace them with. My amplifier is an earthquake powerhouse class AB 800W/2 channel. The transistors say C2559 and underneath has a little 02C. The other is the same but underneath has a little 02N

Have you checked the voltage in the car? I know this sounds like a dumb thing to check, but if your voltage is dropping than the amps current draw will go up. Also have you ran at least 2 runs of 1/0 1 for ground and 1 for positive?

It sounds like the main power transistors may be bad. Common with big amplifiers. The transistors can be better tested out of the circut. Sometimes only a few are the ones causing the fault. They may not all be bad. It is always recomended to replace a transistor with the same part. If the correct part is not avalible you can usually substitute it with one of similar specifications. Replacements can be better or worse, usually no noticable difference is present. Also there are usually very low ohm resistors that may be damaged usually connected near the transistor. It takes a very sensitive meter to check them so I replace them too while I have it apart and to ensure correct operation. C2559 is the part you have. It does not cross to any radio shack (Archer) numbers... It does cross to other # avalible online at DiGiKey.com.

I have a gem sound 1000 watt amp with no sound fuses blown and keeps burning fuses

Fuses blow when there's an overload. This is generally caused by a semiconductor acting as if was a piece of wire. You should look to the devices located on the big heat sink. If they are transistors a multimeter will show it quick. For on the ohms scale test leads across the terminals of each faulty transistor will be just like you had touched the two leads together!

My amplifier fuse was blow when i try to turn on the power.after that i did replace with new fuse and then i try to turn on the power again but the fuse blow again.so what make it happen?can you help me...

You may have shorted output devices in the amplifier output section of the amp circuit...these are usually mounted to the heat sinks and are very large output transistors...if you have an ohmmeter available you can test the outputs...there are 3 leads on each output...you want to test the transistors by putting the ohmmeter in the diode test mode and then put the leads on the transistor to check for a 0 ohm reading..there are 3 leads so you will have to test all 3 in all combinations possible...for example: the 3 leads of a transistor are labled E,B,C...so you want to test E and B, E and C, B and C...if you find a shorted transistor, then you will need to get the part number off the transistor and obtain replacements...you can order replacements at mcmelectronics.com

Is it known to overheat easily? if so why is this and how can it b sorted

Amps overheat if the impedance is missmatched, if the grounding is not sufficient or if there is an internal component failure. Normally the fuse will blow to stop the amp from damaging itself, unless you are using a fuse which is too high ampage than the factory fuse, then you will be damaging your amp instead. I'd say it could be a blown transistor. If so you will need to open up the amp run a multimeter to check resistance on the transistors if it's close to 0 they are blown. Other signs could be soot on the board and any obvious damage.

Unit blows the fuse on power up. This happened after it was working fine at low level, next power up the fuse blows. Checked large 5600uf caps are ok, removed the four 0N05HD MOSFETS and fuse does not...

Hiya try
http://www.icpowerx.com for the Mosfets, you will probably need to replace driver transistors also (not always but sometimes they go). Also check the resistors to output, they will be the big white ones.

Just to be sure. If one is blown, replace all

Nht subtwo blowing f1 fuse on ac input module. found shorted Q16 2SA1302 and Q15 2SC3281 transistors what was the reason for these parts failing and what else should i be checking.

Try turning on the unit without the two transistors installed. Measure the DC voltages on the 3 pads to ground. These should read .6V,40V and 0, both +and -. If you read anything else, the driver circuit has a problem.

Help my fuse is blow!

If the amp blows fuses only AFTER you send remote turn-on voltage to the amp, the amp probably has blown output transistors. To eliminate other possible causes, read through the following page.
