Signed up for google voice but had to reclaim the number I started with. directed to settings & highlight "legacy google voice": it isn't there.What do i do other than wait 90 days?

This may be a cold solder connection or mechanicaly defective component on the circuit board. There are many parts in that unit that can cause the described fault.

Google Voice is integrated withthe dialer. When you use the dialer, it uses Google Voice to call out. Theactual Google Voice app is where you'll get your text messages and voicemails.
When you call or text someone, they'll see your Gvoice number.
The main downside to it is that in order to get your voicemails and texts, youhave to have data enabled, so you wouldn't be able to use an app likeJuiceDefender. And if 3G goes down while you're out on the town, you won't beable to get your messages unless you can bum wifi off a Starbucks or something.
Personally, I've only had that problem once or twice (but I use Virgin Mobile,with Verizon it shouldn't be a problem at all), so it wasn't a huge deal. Youalways have regular texting if you really need it.
