I need a source for a replacement left (read) drive on a TDK DA-3826 CD Recorder. I get "Read Error" on a good audio CD.

Try a different disc brand.You could have a failing record laser.

Is the motor spinning to try to open the drawer?Can you hear it? Can you get something under the tray edge to try to 'help' it out when pressing eject?
