It sounds like something not put back correctly or adjusted. Was the slave cylinder arm push in when you bled the system? There may be air behind it. Did you use a pressure bleed system, slave up to Master. Lots of help in the links.
Popping could be the gears slipping, look for something that is jammed in the gears. It might be defective too, it could be stuck in going in one direction and not stopping, that would cause some noise. If it is new, take it back, and try another.
